Community Highlights: Meet Justin Whitfield of The Wildcatter Saloon

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Whitfield.

Justin Whitfield

Hi Justin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I woke up one morning and was scrolling through Facebook when I came across a post. The Wildcatter Saloon was closing on Saturday. (This was Tuesday.) I had my current bar, The End Zone Sports Bar and Grill, up for sale. Long story short, I worked a deal out to buy Wildcatter Saloon, and the day I was driving to the Wildcatter to sign the paperwork, a man called me who was looking to buy End Zone asked if we could meet up to finalize his purchase of The End Zone. If that isn’t fate, I don’t know what is. I bought and sold at the same place at the same time. Fast forward 7 years, and we have won “Best Live Music Venue” 3 of the last 4 years! We have big names play here often. Names like Aaron Lewis, puddle of mudd, Corey Feldman.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We flooded within 7 months of owning the wildcatter. While repairing, Bar Rescue (TV show) told us to stop repairing and that they were coming to help us. They came for two days and left due to Jon Taffer gettin sick. This was a huge morale destroyer. Had a tornado hit us.

Ice storm caused over 30 breaks in the plumbing.

Covid lockdown.

Our booking agent died of cancer. John Janatsch. Great guy. We will miss him.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about The Wildcatter Saloon?
This place is huge. 3 1/2 acres! 4 bars. 3 buildings. So much to do here. We are known mostly for our big concerts, but we also have a lot of events that we host. For example: adult Easter Egg hunt, Brazilian fest, crawfish boils, BBQ Cookoff, proms!

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
