Today we’d like to introduce you to Ken Underhill.
Hi Ken, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up as a poor kid, went through some twists and turns in life that included military service and working in medicine. I eventually found my way into technology and have been doing IT and cybersecurity ever since.
To date, I’ve been fortunate to help over 2 million people all over the world and co-author an international best-selling book called Hack the Cybersecurity Interview that helps people ace job interviews in cybersecurity.
I’m currently a co-founder at Underground Ops, where we help software development teams secure their code across cloud platforms and accelerate code delivery.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have faced many struggles, especially financially in the past. The best advice I would have for someone else that is either looking to build their corporate career or their own business is “Avoid Quitting.”
Persistence is the biggest key to my success.
The phrase “like a bad penny” often has a negative connotation, but I think you need to be like that bad penny and keep showing up.
That’s how you win.
Nobody wins a race at the Olympics by stopping halfway through the race.
As you know, we’re big fans of Underground Ops. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At Underground Ops, we help software development teams secure their code across cloud platforms and accelerate code delivery.
Other offerings include bespoke cybersecurity curriculum and upskilling, client onboarding training for cybersecurity product companies, and bespoke security services.

What do you think about happiness?
Just Being (in the moment).
We often spend our day thinking about tomorrow, next week, goals 5 years from now, or even the past. But it’s important to just be present in the moment.
When is the last time you really stopped to appreciate all of the abundance you have?
Many years ago, I lived in my car, and a guy in a nice suit gave me advice when he walked by.
“Focus on the abundance you do have.” is what he said
Of course, I was like most people and started poor-mouthing, but he started pointing out the things I did have.
Clothes on my back.
A car roof over my head.
A job (actually 2 jobs that didn’t pay much, which is why I lived in the car).
That mindset shift was critical in my life.
When I started expressing gratitude and just living in the moment, my energy vibration changed, and I started attracting more wealth.
It wasn’t millions of dollars overnight like all of those “coaches” on social media claim you can do.
But I started receiving more opportunities and new ideas for how I could earn more money.
And I stuck with it to become the person I am today.
Everything starts within and is then reflected in your external world.
“As within, so without.”
