Today we’d like to introduce you to Aaron Medrano
Hi Aaron, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started cutting hair as a senior in high school. I was always interested in hair but never pursued it as a career until I had to figure out what to do after high school. I started cutting hair and a few months after graduating high school I went to barber school. During barber school I was cutting hair from home. After graduating barber school I had to decide if I wanted to continue cutting at home, look for a barbershop, or get a suite somewhere. Since I started cutting hair in high school, my dream was always to be able to maybe open my own barbershop. As I was finishing barber school and looking for a place to continue cutting hair, I didn’t find anywhere in the area that I pictured myself working in and growing my career as a barber. So then, just to see if it was possible, I started looking into opening a barbershop like I dreamt of in high school. After a few months of doing this, It started to get real. I met different people who helped me along this journey and everything was shaping up to actually opening my own barbershop. After a few months of back and forth and different negotiations I signed the lease for the barbershop. I wouldn’t be where I am today without all the people who’ve helped me along the way. And the people who believed in my vision. We recently celebrated our 1 year anniversary last March and are happy to continue serving the community and all our clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all. I think the biggest thing was not knowing what I was doing at all. At the time I was only 19 years old and just trying to build my dream. I wasn’t making a lot of money either but I just had to believe in myself and convince other people to see my same vision and that it was actually possible. There was a lot of unknown and things I had to learn along the way. But I’m so grateful for the experience and being able to learn as I went because that’s a great way to grow
We’ve been impressed with Change Barber Studio, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a barbershop. We cut all hair types and all hair textures. We pride ourselves in our ability to be able to cut anyone who walks through our doors. We not only do fades and lineups but we also know how to cut with shears and do scissor cuts which is sort of a lost art in barbering. We do lots of continuing education within our staff and try our best in keeping up with all the new trends and style. I would say we’re a modern barbershop focused on technicality and precision. I’m proud that we’ve been able to build our brand to whenever you hear about Change Barber Studio you can expect a certain level of quality and value that we try our best to offer
Any big plans?
Future plans, I do want to be able to scale the business to multiple locations and build a brand bigger than just another barbershop. I hope to make this business something everyone can be proud of and support because of our vision. As of right now, no big plans in the works. We’re just going to continue doing what we’re doing and trying the get better every single day.
