Hi Toju, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
I embarked on my journey quite early, always knowing deep down that I wanted to own a business, even if I didn’t have the courage to admit it back then. Coming from a background where brilliance was synonymous with becoming a doctor, lawyer, or engineer, I initially focused my energy on obtaining a degree in medicine.
However, while pursuing a degree, I constantly found myself drawn to beauty and fashion. For instance, in middle school, I persuaded my mom to fund an apprenticeship at a hair braiding shop because I was fascinated by the intricate patterns and the transformative results. I later asked my mom to pay for my makeup class, knitting class, and many more, but those stories are for another day.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey has been far from smooth! I had envisioned myself as a millionaire by now, but the reality has been quite different. I’ve come to understand that learning and growth come with their own unique set of obstacles and stresses.
While my initial passion was to beautify people, I’ve found myself diving into design, finance, social media marketing, sales, customer service, teaching, and more. Without adequate funds or hired expertise, managing most, if not all, of these tasks can be incredibly stressful.

Toju Sunmola is a visionary designer who expresses her creativity through nails, fashion, and digital interfaces. As the CEO of Toju’s Beauty and Fashion, I am dedicated to fostering a space where art, beauty, and education converge.
At our fashion studio, we provide expert alterations, custom-made services, and educational classes for beginners and aspiring fashion designers. Our goal is to nurture talent and help individuals realize their potential in the fashion industry.
In our nail studio, we take immense pride in delivering exceptional manicure and pedicure services, including enhancements like Gel/Shellac, Gel X, Acrylics, and Structured Gel Manicures. We adhere to the highest standards of safety and cleanliness, ensuring that every client leaves feeling relaxed, refreshed, and completely satisfied.
I am proud of my journey, the growth I’ve experienced, and the positive impact I’ve had on my students and clients.
