Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Tinder
Hi Paul, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My wife, Vaughn Taylor, and I met when were both on contract to Another World on NBC. We starred in hundreds of TV Episodes in NYC and Hollywood as well as over 400 national commercials. We developed and produced 2 films distributed by Lionsgate, The Long Ride Home and Any Last Words. When we moved to San Antonio we founded an award winning theater and taught acting classes. We were trained by amazing teachers in NYC and Hollywood and our mentors were Garry Marshall, Gene Reynolds and Larry Gelbart. We moved here to be closer to our daughters and are in the process of starting Film Acting classes for Adult and Teen. The training we offer is the exact same training you would receive in Hollywood and NYC and that is what brought us success in our careers. We were the 2% of SAG/AFTRA actors who made a living as actors without having to have other jobs to support us. We focus on not just training the actor in the craft so they can achieve their dreams but how the entertainment industry works as a business and how you have to approach it to become successful. We have tons of actors that we taught working regionally in the industry, making films and accepted into prestigious college programs across the country. We hope to share the knowledge about pursuing dreams in the entertainment industry with the talented dreamers in the greater Houston area. Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Even though we have the professional background we have, getting the word out to the Houston community is taking longer than expected. That is why we greatly appreciate your getting in touch. When we first started we didn’t fully understand that you succeed in the industry by fulfilling every moment the character needs to experience in the scene. Those audition skills that we were taught is what we share with our students. As an actor, you will always get more no’s than yes’s so you have to develop a thick skin and find value in yourself, not just what you do.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
We have a combined 40 years of experience as actors, acting coaches, producers and directors for film and theater. Not many acting teachers in regional markets have the professional experience we we bring to a class. As mentioned before, when you work with us you are training the same way you would in NYC and Hollywood. We focus on Acting on Film and how you pursue the Entertainment Industry safely and effectively. We are most proud of being 2 actors who have a ton of fun sharing the skills required for success and are also married for 41 years. It took me 5 years to get our first film with Lionsgate, The Long Ride Home, produced and when we drove up the first day of principal filming there was a sign on a tree that said TLRH and an arrow pointing to the parking area. I took 5 years of hard, dedicated and focused drive to get that sign posted and I cried tears of joy and relief. Also, every student that we help to achieve their dreams feeds our spirits because all that our teachers challenged us with is passed on to the next generations of dreamers.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Never expect success because of who you are but pursue the skills required to achieve the success you dream of. You have to understand something about the entertainment industry, they don’t need you. There are more than enough actors to perform every role that will ever be written. Your goal is to make them want you. That comes with technique, drive, commitment and humility. We can’t see talent because that is inside you. The skill that you have in using your talent is what allows the industry to see it and that is what opens doors for you.
