Inspiring Conversations with Valerie Dickson of Fierce Fit Factory

Today we’d like to introduce you to Valerie Dickson.

Valerie Dickson

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Although I have been working in the fitness industry for 5 years I did not officially apply for my fitness brand until 2020, and received all my LLC paperwork for Fierce Fit Factory in December of 2020. I have been building my brand and clientele by working at various gym facilites such as LA Fitness, YMCA, and various corporation companies such as Phillips 66, Sysco, and Woodside. I work as a professional group fitness instructor and as a fitness specialist.

In addition to my fitness I am also a professional certified Texas educator for the state of Texas and have 12 years of various teaching and administrative experience. I love that I am still able to utilize all of my formal education in Culinary Arts. Hospitality Management, and Educational Leadership in my fitness business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business is never an easy feet. Recently I have loss my mother and my aunt within months of each other and was laid off from my professional position. However, I took this as a sign to rest and grieve the loss of my loved ones, focus on my mental and physical wellness, and fully transition out of the classroom and administrative rolls, and work on the business side of education as a consultant to teach professional development courses to staff and students.

As you know, we’re big fans of Fierce Fit Factory . For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Currently Fierce Fit Factory is creating a business plan which will incorporate holistic wellness practices which will include mental, spiritual, and physical wellness looking at the entire person as a whole to create life long wellness.

I am currently enrolled in yoga and reformer training and will offer these specialized services at my boutique fitness facility as well as other traditional group fitness formats such as dance, cycle, and strength.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
My biggest cheerleaders have been other fitness professionals such as Priscilla Barnes who encouraged me to become a group fitness instructor. Misty Campbell who recommended me for a position at YMCA which is how I got my start in fitness. I started at the YMCA as a children’s hip-hop instructor and then was able to transition into group fitness. Of course my spouse and daughter are always supportive of my career decisions.
