Meet Cortnee Lane

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cortnee Lane.

Cortnee Lane

Hi Cortnee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hello! My name is Cortnee Lane, but my clients and friends call me Fancy. I am the owner and lead planner of Fancy Lane Weddings.

When I was a Director of Catering and Sales at a historical property in Michigan, I made the decision to branch out and plant my own seeds in the wedding industry. I started out by researching heavily into what makes a wedding planner capable of being a successful wedding planning business. I designed my website and operational standards on a very elementary basis.

I began to heavily network. This is how I was able to solidify and evolve my singular portfolio into countless great opportunities – features, styled shoots, a wedding fashion show, and booking wedding clientele all over the United States.

Fancy Lane Weddings is a boutique wedding planning company known for our ability to brand each client’s experience to who they are and what they enjoy. We are now operating with a team in this 5th year of business and branching into digital products to create working with a wedding professional more accessible.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Being acknowledged and respected as a wedding planning professional comes with the struggles of equality, understanding your network based on the location, and understanding one’s brand voice. These are the great blessings that you only get to learn through experience.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I hope at this point in the interview it is understood that I am a wedding planner, and I own a wedding planning company.

My website says, “the FLW coordination, planning and design process starts with our team as your champion and guide, contributing reliable recommendations and years of experience from the first phone call to wedding day execution.”

The first two sentences takes care of the professional for the last 8 years of my life, which 5 of those were as the entity of Fancy Lane Weddings.

But…

Planning weddings, to me, is more than the professional capabilities. Planning weddings is personal. On a social and emotional level, I pride myself in being available and “fingers-crossed” non-judgmental.

My specialty is listening.

I am the most proud when my client sees their vision come to life on their wedding day. They always say to me,” I couldn’t have done this. Thank you for planning my wedding.” Truthfully, if I had not listened or asked the right questions, it would still be beautiful, it just wouldn’t be what they wanted.

My purpose is what sets me apart from other wedding planning companies.

There are so many awesome creators I admire, know personally and have met. I am such a cheerleader for their work.

We are invested for the pure connection of the love story, and the rest will come. It is just that simple.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
I am such a Call of Duty fan. I am talking about midnight release, t-shirt purchasing, signature skins invested Call of Duty Fan. It is my sole purpose of owning a PlayStation 5.
