Today we’d like to introduce you to Sweetie Shumaker
Hi Sweetie, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My mom is an excellent singer. From my childhood up until present, I always remember her singing. I started writing songs in elementary school. I was placed into Gifted & Talented in the fourth grade because of my writing skills. To be honest I’ve been writing song my entire life but I didnt see myself as an artist until my senior year of college. As I neared graduation I felt that if I continued down that path I would live an unfulfilled life. I dug deep & thought about what my natural talents were & I picked up music again. At first I made music just for fun, there was no real substance behind the music that I made at that time. Later I realized that people were actually listening to my music & that I didn’t want to make music just for enjoyment. In Jan 2023 I gave my life to Christ & got baptized. From then on I decided that every song that I wrote would include a message. The message would include a lesson that I’ve learned, a life experience, building up confidence, bringing glory to God, motivation or overcoming obstacles! Whatever the message may be I want to heal others with my music & use my gift the way that God intended for it to be used.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has not been smooth. For a while I struggled with actually knowing who I was & discovering my purpose. It was like I was floating through life doing the things I “thought” I should do & never really taking the time to truly love myself. I started building my relationship with God & as I got to know him I got to know me! The closer I grew to him the more I discovered myself. Before I used to always look in the mirror at myself like I was a stranger, now when I look in the mirror. I can actually see myself. Jesus is still working on me though, I am a work in progress 🙂
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a musical artist. I suppose my specialty would be writing! I write all of my own songs & I take pride in it! I’ve had people reach out to me asking if they could write songs for me & I declined them all! I will never allow anyone to write songs for me because its not just about the music for me, the things that I write are reflections of me & my life! I feel like its cheating if I didnt write it or if I had help. I want to succeed using my own talent!
