Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeannette Villegas
Hi Jeannette, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey parallels that of many small business owners. After 16 years in the finance industry, I experienced changes that made me realize I wanted to be my boss. I’ve always dreamed of owning a business, but I couldn’t find the right idea. Then, I stumbled upon a Mobile Bar in Georgia (Kate’s Mobile Bar) on Instagram and instantly fell in love with the concept. I researched this type of business, the laws in Texas, the requirements, etc.
We did our first event in August 2022. I was so nervous; needless to say, I did not sleep the day before the event.
got so obsessed with everything, from the aesthetics, building my recipes, creating my spreadsheets to calculate in bulk, checklists, finding vendors, places to market and list my business, SEO, building a website, social media, etc. I wanted to be different, so we added some services that were unique to us.
From age fifteen, I’ve embraced hard work to support my family, juggling two jobs and full-time school. My only day off? Tuesday afternoons! I was an assistant manager in a restaurant until my ninth month of pregnancy, and I returned to work just three weeks after giving birth. I was in a not-so-good marriage and left; I became a single mom at the age of 19, with my daughter being ten months old. But I promised myself I would care for myself and my daughter by supporting us, making us happy, and shielding her from any problems or struggles I encountered. I’m proud to say that I did it! She is a lovely and smart young woman with whom I have the best relationship. She will always be my baby 💕.
I thrive on challenges and take immense pride in being a strong, independent woman. I also love being a girly girl, and I allow myself moments of vulnerability and positive self-talk. It’s all about finding that beautiful balance.
With ten years of experience in the restaurant industry, I have enjoyed forming personal connections with customers—and I miss that!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Running a business involves mastering various roles, from sales and marketing to operations and time management. I didn’t have experience in some of these roles. However, my background in operations and running several departments has helped me tremendously.
I always explore ways to work smarter, not harder.
Despite the challenges, I consider myself a positive person, although occasional struggles can lead to self-doubt and sometimes fear of failure. The number of articles, videos, books, audiobooks, and courses I’ve taken is countless. To grow, we must acknowledge that we all have our internal limitations and beliefs; we must be open to new ideas and learn from others. I always say that I don’t know anything, ha! Which keeps me humble and opens me to limitless lessons and opportunities to keep evolving and growing my business and a person.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Our Mobile Bar and Bartending Service specializes in a wide range of events, including weddings, corporate gatherings, community events, non-profits, and lively private parties. We bring everything you need to serve signature cocktails, mixed drinks, beer, and wine, tailoring our setup, menu, and services to match each client and event type.
Operating as a dry-hire mobile bar (as per Texas laws), our clients are responsible for purchasing the alcohol, but we make it easy by providing a detailed shopping list. For larger events, we can even handle the ordering and pickup of the alcohol.
We know that hosting an event involves extensive preparation, from planning and calculating quantities to creating menus, purchasing supplies, and keeping the bar stocked and spotless. That’s where we come in. Not only do we handle it all, but we exceed expectations with fresh ingredients, homemade syrups, and hand-dehydrated fruits, ensuring the highest quality.
We aim to deliver a unique experience with friendly service, beautiful bars, and delicious, visually stunning cocktails.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love Houston’s diversity of culture, personalities, food, numerous restaurants and bars, and various activities around the City. I’ve met many wonderful people from all walks of life. I love to learn their story, we have a story to tell.
I hate the humidity in Texas with a passion. It’s like opening your home and finding a hot blow-dryer waiting for you outside. This is not good for my hair and make-up.
