Today we’d like to introduce you to Meagan Hamilton
Hi Meagan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am a small town girl from a place called Regina, Saskatchewan in Canada. When I was a child, we didn’t have as much growing up as most kids. But my mom worked incredibly hard to afford me playing soccer. I was blessed by God with a lot of athletic talent, with a drive, work ethic and desire to become the best I can possibly be at anything I try. I was the first person in my family to graduate from College, where I graduated with a dual major in adapted movement science and human kinetics in Kinesiology. I played 5 years of varsity division one soccer in Canada, and I still hold the all time school records for most career goals, most career assists, and most career points. I was fortunate enough to represent Team Canada in the Universiade games in Russia in 2013 as well. When I finished playing College soccer, I felt lost and like a piece of my identity was missing. I opted out of playing professional soccer due to lingering injuries, and that I still had 2 years of my degree left. I went through a rough and dark 1-2 years of partying, and feeling incredibly lost with no direction. A feeling I never felt before. School and sports kept me out of trouble, and gave me a passion that I couldn’t go one day without thinking about and working towards. I gained about 30 pounds in this time, and came across some bikini competitors on Instagram. Instagram was fairly new at this time, so we weren’t as exposed to bodybuilding unless you read about it in magazines. I decided I wanted to give it a try, and hired my first trainer. I worked 4 jobs while going to school full-time AND did my first competition prep. I made zero excuses, made many sacrifices, lost a lot of friends, and pushed myself to new levels I didn’t know was possible. After my first competition, I was hooked! You walk off stage regardless of your placing, and feel like a super hero. I felt like I could achieve ANYTHING. Once I graduated from College with my kinesiology degree, I began working as a personal trainer at a corporate gym. I quickly filled up with clients and was working 12-16 hour days 7 days a week at the gym for nearly 2 years. At this time, online coaching was very new, and I started receiving inquiries for online coaching. I had NO idea and zero experience with running my own business nor with social media. But I knew there had to be a way I could run my own business online, being able to help 10x more people while working for myself and growing my own team. By 2017, I had quit at the gym, and became a full online coach with my own business. It was scary and new, but with a lot of research I was able to get an LLC and make it happen!
Between 2015-2020 I competed in 10 shows, won an international show and was 1 spot away from turning pro in the IFBB, and grew my clientele to where I was so busy and rarely accepting new clients. During those 5 years though, there were many ups and downs. I had many long time periods away from my own training due to a bad back injury, surgeries, and just overall taking a step back from my own competing in order to focus on my business and my clients. I moved to Texas in 2018 when I met my now husband, and in 2021 we started Hybralete Fitness together. We chose Hybralete because it means Hybrid Athlete. We coach ALL types of people, from bodybuilders, to power lifters, to athletes, to lifestyle clients wanting to get in better shape, as well as people looking to become healthier.
Along the way, I have had many different mentors whom I’ve learned a lot from, I have taken precision nutrition, resistance training courses, and am currently working on many different Functional Medicine classes. I am very blessed that God placed many different people in my life along the journey to learn from. To be able to do this with my husband Michael is also very special. To be able to help people unlock new levels of themselves they didn’t even know they had, is a true privilege. One decade in, and I’m looking forward to seeing what God has planned for the next 10 years!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely has not been a smooth road. There have been many struggles along the way of this journey. One of my biggest struggles is learning how to set boundaries for myself with my business and clients. I am the type of person who will go above and beyond for my clients, and sometimes put myself last. But I have learned that in order for me to serve others at my best, I need to serve myself. I can’t pour from a cup that is half empty. Another struggle, as many business owners can probably relate to, is that I can’t really take time off from work, other than a day here and there sometimes. This can make it difficult when life does happen (like getting really sick, or something that I need to tend to). It then puts me behind on work and then I’m playing catch up for the week
Social media has been a struggle/road block for me. I used to get way more engagement on my posts even if I wasn’t putting much effort in. Now, it’s hard to keep up with the algorithms and instagram has not been showing my posts to many people. When your business is all online, social media is key to growing quicker!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I do customized nutrition plans whether that be macros or meal plans, as well as create a customized workout plan to each individual client
I would say I specialize in bodybuilding clients and lifestyle clients especially hormonal health
I am most proud of the amount of lives we have changed forever. I think what sets us a part is that we don’t treat our clients like they’re just another number. We deeply care about every single individual.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Having a coach and doing bodybuilding is not necessarily cheap. but investing in your health is priceless. I feel like with the direction the economy is going, many people will start to cut costs and cut out their coaching. That being said, the younger generation is taking care of their health and fitness more seriously and we’re seeing a big shift with the younger people taking health more seriously than ever before which is great!
