Community Highlights: Meet Sandy Wahowski of Bo Biscuits Dog Treats

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sandy Wahowski

Hi Sandy , so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our story begins when I unexpectedly adopted Bo (my border collie) from the Special Pals Animal Shelter in Katy, Texas in July of 2021.. During this time, I was going through a transition in my life and sought to use my time volunteering in our local community. On my first day of volunteering with my then six year old daughter, we met this little furry ball of cuteness along the adoption row. My daughter, Harper, could not resist and even though our volunteer shifted ended early, we stayed at the shelter playing with Bo. We signed the adoption papers and he officially came home with us.

My aunt, Katie, sent my daughter and I a package in the mail as a congratulations for Bo’s adoption. In the package were dog bone cookie cutters and a note. The note included a hand written recipe from my grandfather, John Riley. My grandfather was a retired Navy veteran turned baker. Growing up, I remember his love of making all of this grandkids their birthday cakes, cup cakes, pastries, etc. However, I also remember how much he loved his dogs. I never knew he made his own dog treats. My aunt, Katie, passed on his legacy and love for his dogs to me.

My boyfriend and I tried out the recipe; a peanut butter pumpkin biscuit. Bo as our first official taste tester gobbled it up immediately and begging for more. Thus, Bo Biscuits Dog Treats were born a year later after baking a lot of treats for Bo and our friends dogs. Within a year and half, we added two more rescue pups (Duke and Sue Ellen) to our home. I developed recipes to match their personalities and give more variety of flavor to customers.

Bo Biscuits Dog Treats officially launched in December of 2023 at the Katy Market Day Old Fashion Christmas Market. Our treats were a hit with the community; that was our sign that we had something special.

Today, we continue to service the Houston metro area with local markets, events, partnering with Dogtopia Katy, and opened our own space in Painted Tree Sugar Land.

Our goal is to keep our business about the dogs and help spread the word about local rescues, adoptions, and shelter needs. We donate to Special Pals Animal Shelter in Katy and Houston Humane Society. Most importantly, I am honored to keep the legacy of my grandfather alive. His love for dogs keeps our mission to provide happiness and tails wagging to our local pup community alive.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest challenges is time.

I am a full time teacher and mother. Finding the balance of time with working full time, parenting, and baking/prepping for events has been a challenge. However, it has been a blessing at the same time. Working hard into late nights and seeing the happy pups at events makes the challenge of time worth it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Bo Biscuits Dog Treats ?
Our mission at Bo Biscuits Dog Treats is to provide a healthy alternative for pet parents to reward their pups. We strive to create biscuits that are healthy and tasty for dogs. We provide a variety of treat products including three flavors of treats, chews, and custom treats for special occasions. Our pups customers’ favorite treat are the Chicken Chews and the Duke Delights biscuits (bacon, apple, cheddar). Our treats are economically friendly as we thrive to be affordable treats for every pet parent to provide happiness to their pups.

We strive to bring awareness to pups in need in our local community by working with rescue organizations such as The Heart of the Underdog Rescue, Special Pals Animal Shelter, and the Houston Humane Society. Our ultimate goal is to provide a sanctuary for dogs that have been in the shelter/foster care for long periods of time by creating a rescue ranch called Trails and Tails Rescue.

At Bo Biscuits Dog Treats, we keep our focus on the dogs. We love learning the pups’ stories, highlighting who they are as pups, and celebrating them. We love spoiling all of the dogs which sets us apart from the rest.

Any big plans?
Our future plans are big. The long term goal at Bo Biscuits Dog Treats is to create a non-for profit rescue ranch in Texas called Trail and Tails Rescue. We would love to save all of the dogs that have been in shelters for long periods of time, especially senior aged dogs.

In the short term, we hope to continue to expand to other Painted Tree Boutique and open our own brick and mortar location where pups and their humans can hang out together.
