Today we’d like to introduce you to Syed Mahmood
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My name is Syed Mahmood. My wife, Aziza Faria, and I co-founded Uncover Publishing, a publishing company based in Houston, Texas. From a young age, I’ve had an entrepreneurial spirit. While many children with this inclination often sell items like snacks, candies, or sodas, I offered personal services to other students. For instance, I would complete their biology assignments or draw graphs for mathematical equations, earning money for my efforts. I’ve always believed that if you’re good at something, you should monetize it.
For most people, the American dream involves owning a nice house and car. However, our version of the American dream is to own a business and see it climb the ladder of success. Although our business is currently a startup, we aspire to scale it to a level where it positively impacts millions of lives and leaves a lasting legacy.
In addition to our entrepreneurial endeavors, I work in IT in corporate America, a job I genuinely enjoy. Building something of our own, though, provides the highest level of satisfaction. I work five days a week at my day job, but our commitment to our business extends to seven days a week. This dedication doesn’t exhaust us; rather, it feels like raising a child, requiring constant attention, love, and hard work. We will consider our business successful if it can serve millions of people positively and meet their needs.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Building our business has definitely not been a smooth road. The self-publishing market is hyper-competitive, making it imperative to use creativity to stand out from the crowd. We believe that creative ideas are key to overcoming most of the hurdles we face and achieving success.
We’ve been impressed with Uncover Publishing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a small publishing company run by a husband and wife team. We aspire to be the market leader in the niche of activity books and are dedicated to bringing quality products to consumers. We publish printed books on Amazon and digital versions on Etsy. So far, we have released journals for entrepreneurs, moms, and dads, as well as coloring books for kids and adults. We believe in creating unique products that cater to consumers’ needs. Our creative offerings help us stand out and appeal to the customers. We pour our hearts, creativity, and joy into designing and building our products, ensuring that our customers feel the same joy when using them. We infuse emotion into each of our products to reach the hearts of our customers, making them proud to own our creations.
Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
Since childhood, I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur, though I didn’t know the term back then and simply wanted to be a businessman. I have always had a vision to build a business because it allows one to reach millions of people with products and services. In high school, I monetized my drawing skills by offering personal services to other students, completing their biology and math assignments. I am happy that I have maintained that entrepreneurial spirit and embarked on my business journey in adulthood.
