Today we’d like to introduce you to Alyssa Martin.
Hi, Alyssa. Thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
I became interested in fitness later in life. As a child, I was often struggling with my health and did not get to build my confidence in exercise and activity. Once I became involved in fitness in my 30s, my life completely changed, and I knew my life’s purpose was to bring confidence in movement to as many people as possible. I became a yoga instructor and then became involved in the acrobatic community. Once I developed my skills through play and a lighthearted approach to getting fit, I knew that was the key to inspiring others. I now use a fun and novel approach to fitness and inspire others by showing how exciting creative movement and exercise can be.
It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The most challenging part of my journey was proving those who doubted my abilities. Because I started my fitness journey much later in life, most of my friends and family had never seen that side of me. So, as I began to explore gymnastics, dance, circus arts, and other alternative movements, I received much negative feedback about possible injury at my age. But as I continued forward, I showed my determination and the ability to push past the limitations others set.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a circus arts trainer specializing in using play to inspire fun in exercise. My life’s work is to show those that think they can’t, that they *can.*
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
The most important part of making fitness accessible for everyone is creating a sense of fun and excitement. If someone finds the type of movement that creates joy and anticipation, they can (and will want to!) stay active and fit late in life.
