Today we’d like to introduce you to Tanya Torres
Hi Tanya, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi Bonita, my name is Tanya! So to start off with some background about me, I’m originally from California I moved to Texas in 09’. I grew up lower income and was ready to be able to have a different life. I became a nurse in 17’. Got married and had 3 kids by the age of 27. I grew up very fast and was in a stage where I didn’t know who Tanya was. So I decide to start sharing my life and struggles on social media. It has brought me so much joy to do something for just me, not mom me, work me, wife me. But just me. I’m able to connect with other bonitas that also might going through the same or similar journeys of life and help encourage them too. I hope to grow more on there and help other women find themselves too and encourage them that they are a priority too.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
With life everything has its up and downs. I’m a first generation Latina. So many struggles come with that. I figured out how to pay and get myself through college. My husband and I work really hard to raise our kids differently than what we grew up like and give them a life we didn’t have.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Professionally I have a degree in nursing and have been a cardiac nurse for the last seven years. Being a nurse is something I’m really proud of and it’s an absolute honor to help people on some of the worse days of their lives. My side hustle is social media and although I might not make an income from that but I have a true passion for it. I love connecting with other women and just cheering them on in this crazy thing we call life. Although I can be spicy I think my heart is so big, i genuinely love caring and encouraging people.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
I definitely learned a lot since I work at a hospital. But my biggest take away is that your health is everything, you have one body. Treat it well. Move your body everyday!
