Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Veena Watwe
Hi Dr. Veena, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I am an Endocrinologist by profession. While medicine is my life, music and art is my passion. I am originally from India. After coming to US some 20 plus years ago, I finished residency and fellowship in Endocrinology and ever since then I have been in private practice in Houston, Texas. I enjoy my work and the fact that I get to see so many people every day (as patients) and hear their stories and be of help to them. I feel happy and blessed to be able to make a difference in people’s lives due to my profession.
While I enjoy my job, I also love any kind of art. I am trained in Indian classical music and I still perform in US in small South – Asian shows and concerts. I recently took up modeling since last few years and have been an influencer on Instagram and a brand ambassador for several brands in US such as Express as well as Indian brands like House of Indya, Kotasilk, C Bazaar, Ethnovogue etc. A highlight of my modeling career was walking at the New York Fashion week as well as getting published in several International Fashion Magazines like Malvie, Moevir, Selin etc. I love painting, photography and travel as well.
I also am a fitness enthusiast. It was my dream to run one half marathon and by now I have done almost half a dozen half marathons and a full marathon. I was always very active but never a runner. I took up running late in life and was successful in achieving my goals. I fully believe that if one decides a goal and has enough perseverance and discipline, one can achieve whatever one wants. I like to use my marathon experience as an example while educating my patients. They certainly can relate to it and it helps motivate them.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have a very supportive family. I brought up my kids to be independent. Initially when they were younger, it was a struggle to manage everything but my husband is very supportive and cooperative. While I would be pursuing my dreams, I knew that my household was taken care of.
Although I do want to emphasize that when you want to achieve something, it can be only possible with good time management, planning, hard work and discipline. I am blessed to have these qualities as well as a supportive environment. One also has to make some sacrifices but its up to each individual to prioritize and decide what are they willing to sacrifice.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I would like to talk about my medicine career as well as my singing and modeling career
Medicine is also an art. I have a successful, busy private practice. I enjoy conversations with people and with my profession I can help them out while enjoying the conversations and getting a peek in people’s lives. I am known to be an ”easy to talk to, yet disciplined’ physician 🙂 To be able to guide someone and convince them to a healthier lifestyle choice is an art.
Singing and Modeling surely need creativity. As I said before, the epitome of my modeling career was walking for New York Fashion Week and getting published in International fashion magazines like Moevir, Malvie, Selin etc.
Highlight of singing career was publishing my own album of Indowestern music with some of the songs in it being composed and written by me. I am known for my Bollywood singing as well. My musical training since childhood surely helps while singing different genre of music including Bollywood.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
