Hi Kaosara, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi, My name is Kaosara S, CEO of Kayglamroom and I was born in Brooklyn, NY, and raised in Queens. I’m a 23-year-old makeup artist now located in Houston, TX. God ordered me to move to Houston in January 2024, so I booked my one-way flight to Houston and stepped out on faith. I’ve had a passion for makeup since age 12, you would catch me at every Beautycon event, watching the best makeup artists in my city such as Aaliyah Jay and Sherese Gold but as I grew I realized that makeup was more than simply a hobby it was a calling. I started up my business after giving my life to Jesus Christ senior year of college. Even though I didn’t know what I wanted to do after graduation, I knew that becoming an entrepreneur was the path I wanted to take. I came across this particular verse when I was considering the business ventures I wanted to take on, Proverbs 18:16 states “A man’s gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men. KJV”. Then, the Lord started reminding me of all the gifts and talents he has given me since childhood which has developed over the years. Makeup was the one that was highlighted first, so I ran with the vision and started taking on clients in September 2023. Since then, I’ve had the opportunity to enrich the lives of many people who have sat in my chair and provide them with a luxurious experience. It has been a pleasure having conversations, sharing testimonies, and encouraging others daily. A ministry doesn’t always have to be within the 4 walls, I’m excited to continue this journey of entrepreneurship and pour into ladies in the areas they may need. The art of makeup is beautiful, and I’m incredibly grateful to God for bestowing upon me such a skill that allows me to honor Him with my business.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started the business it was an obstacle, I thought to myself “How was I going to push this vision out and gain clientele?” But I knew that if God gave me this vision, He would also give me the provision and clients, He did just that. As I bought things for the business with very little God would restore me by having family sew into the business unexpectedly and provide things that were needed. Things began to come together as I continued to be consistent, worked hard, and kept my faith. When I relocated to Houston it felt like I was back at square one. I began working at a shop here, but after a while, the circumstances became unpleasant for my clients forcing me into a new workspace. A few days later, I was able to locate an improved workspace with more than I asked for by God’s grace. Since then I’ve been building my clientele out in Houston and networking in the beauty industry.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
In addition to being a makeup artist, I also operate a clothing line called oneinchristbrand. I specialize in soft glams and bridal sultry looks. I focus on enhancing clients’ natural beauty and creating fun looks that exemplify client’s features. What sets me apart from others is my focus on making my clients feel special and allowing them to talk freely about anything, much like a mini therapy session. It’s more than just makeup for me, as I’ve mentioned earlier. I enjoy spending time with them and offering them life-changing advice based on my own experiences, depending on their circumstances. Furthermore, I provide my clients with a luxurious experience by providing complimentary drinks and snacks. I’m most proud of how my technique has improved over time and how my brand is coming together with the transition to Houston, God is indeed faithful.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I adore the great networking environments I’ve been invited to and the entrepreneurial goal-setting mindset that people possess here. It is refreshing and reassuring to be surrounded by individuals in my industry proving that I’m not in this alone. I also enjoy the different food spots that Houston has to offer, they have various amount of food options which is very convenient. What I like the least is the weather Houston has to offer, the heat is a bit much for me but I’m adjusting lol.
