Inspiring Conversations with JODI SKORUPSKI of JS Personal Styling

Today we’d like to introduce you to JODI SKORUPSKI

Hi JODI, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Officially, I’ve been immersed in the fashion industry for over 20 years, but those who knew me growing up would say it started from childhood. From making my Barbie’s clothes, to getting permission to do fashion illustrations in high school art class, fashion is the only thing I ever really saw myself doing. Unfortunately, at the time I didn’t believe in myself enough to drown out the voices that said I couldn’t do it. So I ended up studying Political Science my first year in college. Needless to say, that didn’t go too well. I secretly applied to design school and ultimately switched majors even though it meant starting all over. From that experience I learned that I need to listen to my own voice more than others, and to trust myself even if others don’t.
After studying fashion design I continued honing my craft in New York. Although I started as an assistant designer, I was lucky enough to get to work in different areas of the fashion industry during my seven years there. When family life brought us to Houston, I transitioned into personal styling, bringing my expertise and passion directly to clients. I’ve been dedicated to helping my clients discover their unique style, ensuring they look and feel their best ever since.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road at all. There have been many times I thought I made a wrong career move. Too many times I allowed self-doubt to hold me back. And a few times I wanted to give up. What I have learned is that you can’t make a bad career move. If you’re willing to work hard, then ultimately that unique blend of experiences are what set you apart from the competition. The times I wanted to quit made me realize why it was worth fighting. And the struggles with self-doubt made me even more proud of myself for overcoming them.
Being a solopreneur or entrepreneur can be lonely at times. Having people you can lean on and bounce ideas off of is important. I love the saying, “if you want to go fast, go alone; if you want to go far, go together.” It’s so true. Over Covid I was able to build a network of other stylists around the world. Having that community has been instrumental. I am also incredibly blessed to have the support of my husband and two sons. Knowing that they believe in me and have my back gives me the strength and courage to persevere through the challenging times.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about JS Personal Styling?
As an independent Personal Stylist my job is to help my clients, both women and men, achieve an image that builds their confidence and is an authentic outward representation of who they are on the inside. The way I achieve that goal varies for each client. Someone that works full-time and travels a lot will have different wardrobe needs than a full-time parent, for example. Some clients want to wear the hottest trends, while others are more interested in a timeless style. What’s important is that I get to know each client and apply my expertise to build a wardrobe that flatters, functions and showcases their unique personal style.

I would say that I’m known for building wardrobes that are practical without sacrificing style. As a Personal Stylist, it’s important to me that my clients feel as good as they look and that their wardrobe functions for their lifestyle. It brings me so much joy to reconnect with a client and see them still wearing and loving the pieces we picked out years ago, looking just as stylish now as they did years before. I believe this dedication to my clients is what has allowed me to build a thriving business based off word-of-mouth referrals. I’ve successfully helped clients enhance their careers and personal lives by boosting their confidence. I truly feel blessed to have the opportunity to effect lives through the medium I love… fashion.

Some of the services JS Personal Styling offers are Outfit Building, Personal Shopping, Personal Branding, Photo Shoot Styling, Special Occasion Styling and Wardrobe Edits, .

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Passion has been the driving force behind my success. The artistry, craftsmanship, and rich history of fashion, combined with the excitement I feel when a look comes together for a client, fuel my dedication. This passion is what keeps me motivated and inspired every day.
