Hi Jessica, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Wicked Experience Design was developed out of a dream that started as a kid. The whole family would pack up to travel along with my stepdad to San Diego for his conferences. Then there were company holiday parties… The idea that there were people out there working to bring all those people together to create these incredible moments was something that excited me. I continued to pursue that excitement through college and every job that came after.
Before establishing Wicked Experience Design, I developed my skills in various roles and at different companies, including world renowned resorts and top organizations within California and Texas. Then the pandemic hit and the industry came to a complete stop so I used that down time to begin the process of starting a business since I was already freelancing on the side anyway. During this time, I was recognized on Connect Corporate’s 40 Under 40 list of event industry leaders and as one of BizBash’s Fresh Faces in the events industry, further fueling my desire to grow a world class event planning agency.
Since 2020, Wicked Experience Design has specialized in creating impactful experiences for corporate and nonprofit organizations. I have a small, yet very talented team that shares my passion for crafting truly impactful experiences. Together, we handle everything from initial concept to final execution, always focusing on achieving our client’s goals and creating lasting impressions with the personalized touch our clients have grown to appreciate. Our approach is detail-oriented, innovative, and client-focused, which has earned us a loyal clientele and numerous accolades.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Starting a business during the pandemic certainly wasn’t easy, especially as an event planner – but honestly, that time has taught me SO much and built my resiliency muscle, and I’m so proud of how I’ve bounced back stronger. There weren’t a lot of events taking place when I first started my business but when they finally did start again, they picked up fast. Many of the struggles I faced were around managing that increased workload and learning how to scale my business to meet the growing demand.
It was a little overwhelming to figure out how to keep everything running smoothly while also focusing on growing a business, and ensuring that service levels didn’t slip. I had many long days and sleepless nights.
Building a solid team was another hurdle. Finding the right people and getting them up to speed during such an unpredictable time wasn’t easy. I had to learn quickly how to manage people and delegate tasks that I only knew how to do. That brought on another level of stress as I worked to build out systems and processes that others could follow and would allow us to grow.
But it was all worth it, and I’m grateful for the past version of myself that kept showing up so I could build my business to where it is today.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Covid-19 crisis taught us many valuable lessons. As an event planning agency, we had to adapt quickly to a rapidly changing landscape. The pandemic showed us the importance of being flexible and adaptable. Even after events started coming back, frequent resurgences of COVID meant more events being canceled or postponed, we had to pivot quickly and think on our feet. This experience reinforced the need to always have a plan B (and sometimes C and D).
Clear and consistent communication with clients, vendors, and team members was also crucial. Keeping everyone informed and aligned helped us navigate the uncertainties and maintain trust and strong relationships. We would have gotten nowhere without the relationships we built.
COVID pushed us to be more innovative and resilient. We explored new ideas, experimented with different formats, and continuously looked for ways to improve our services. This mindset has made us stronger and more versatile as an agency. It was a challenging time, but it also provided opportunities for growth and development that have ultimately made Wicked Experience Design a stronger and more dynamic agency with a solid customer base of amazing clients.
