Today we’d like to introduce you to Gregory Valdez

Hi Gregory, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started at Lopez Negrete Communications, the largest independent Hispanic ad agency at the time, gaining experience working on ad campaigns for major brands such as Dr. Pepper, Dodge, and Verizon. After some time, I moved onto McCann NY, one of the largest ad agencies in the world, to work for U.S. Army Field Marketing. There I helped evolve the strategy U.S. Army Recruiting uses for digital ads.

Eventually I would start a position with FPO Marketing and RCCO in San Antonio, where I was account director for several local-regional brands. Businesses and brands started coming to me out of Houston and New Braunfels to directly work on their brand. The demand would grow to be so large I had to open Gentle Renegades, a virtual ad agency bringing Texas brands ad agency experience at a fraction of the cost.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The biggest struggle in ad agency work is the relationship building. Not every Client is built for the long-term, so it matters how well you maintain those partnerships and that you are ready if a Client ever leaves and causes revenue to drop suddenly. Master balance is needed to overcome and maintain stability.

We’ve been impressed with Gentle Renegades, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I want readers to know that if they are an entrepreneur or small business, they are a brand. Brands that stand the test of time really do the work to establish who they are in the public eye. Think of Disney, Coca-Cola, or Ford Motors. Each as a strong history, but also a clear set of values and a mission eveyone can see and/or support.

This is what we bring to local brands and businesses, along with a real strategy for running online ads that lead to sales or leads, even followers for the branded audience. We are proud to have help brands increase revenue 5x, 10x, and higher. For example, we have worked with a Texas branded pearl snap polo that went from $900 in sales to $500,000 in one year, due in large part to the strategy the entire brand used.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t take yourself seriously, but always take your work seriously.
Don’t forget to stop and breathe.
Don’t forget to ask yourself how another may be feeling.
Don’t forget to take time on communciation. Read then walk away.
