Today we’d like to introduce you to Stanley Scott II.
Stanley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
In December of 2007 I was living and working in Jacksonville, FL and felt that it was time to do what I believe that I was born to do. After a time of praying to God for direction about where I was to open a church, Katy, TX was on my heart. In 2001 or thereabout I had passed through Houston while traveling to another state. I ended up going to the Katy Mills Mall and even purchased some Texans products. They were a new team in the NFL at the time and I thought their logo looked nice. But other than that day and a half when I was here, I hardly knew anything about Houston or Katy for that matter.
But when that answer to prayer came to my heart, I received it by faith and planned a trip so that I could see what this area was all about. So from December 2007 a plan was set in motion for me to move to this area and open a church that I would call Faith Family Church. I had no friends or relatives here at that time. I didn’t have a job to transfer to. All I had was faith in God. I remember distinctly setting the opening date for the church while I still lived in Jacksonville in 2008. I saw that September 13/2009 would be the day that Faith Family Church got started.
We are now into our eighth going on ninth year as a congregation and wow, look what the Lord has done! There are currently about 174 members that have received me as their pastor and our weekly attendance is almost about the same. How we got here is a miracle of God. We started with only a few and now there are many. Every year was better than the previous year and it continues. God has upheld us by the power of His word. He has sustained us and added to us little by little.
Above all we believe the best of FFC is yet to come. The scripture says, “Though your beginning was small, yet your latter end shall greatly increase.” Our best days are in front of us! Thank you for taking the time to read our story.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Truly every year has been better than the previous year. But there have been a couple that were tougher than others. Particularly last year was the toughest years that we’ve ever experienced. And at the same time it was still a good year. What made it tough was a number of tragedies that hit very close to home with several families losing loved ones. A couple of those actually being members of our congregation. Then there was also the flood as a result of the Hurricane. These were some of the struggles along the way.
The good news is God had prepared us ahead of time. There was a prophetic word that came at the start of the year that declared for any trouble that we would experience, God would give us double for our trouble. So now we are expecting that promised double to show up. We will soon grow to a congregation of 400 and beyond because God always honors and watches over His word to perform it.
Please tell us about Houston Faith Family Church.
Faith Family Church is a non-denominational, independent, charismatic, Bible-teaching, word of faith-preaching, congregation of believers that love God, love God’s word and loves people. It is our mission to connect people to God, to connect people to their pastors, to connect people to other families and to connect people to volunteer teams. We truly believe that we are called to make a difference in the lives of the people with whom we come into contact. Our vision is to grow, become great and to help others, and we are seeing that happen every week.
Above the many things that represent who we are and what kind of church we are, we specialize in ministering to men. We believe that if we win the man, we win the whole family. The scripture says, “Smite the shepherd and the sheep of the flock will be scattered.” This is so true and we see it every day. Fatherlessness is the biggest problem in our immediate community. 40% of every child born in America is to a woman who is not married. In the African American community it’s 72.3%. Our goal is become fishers of men literally as Christ challenged.
A second area of high priority is ministering to marriages. Strong families make strong churches. Strong churches make strong communities. Strong communities make strong cities and states. And it just keeps going. We see marriage as the strength of the family. A family is only as strong as the marriage from which it was built. With 50% of every marriage ending end divorce, our work to build strong marriages and restore broken homes is desperately important.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
One of the greatest lessons we have learned along the way which if I had to do again I would employ is to as a pastor focus on leading and feeding the church and have a team who would run and administrate the church. Since we’ve learned that lesson and made it a part of our culture, things have gotten better and better.
