Today we’d like to introduce you to Britani Rose
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Let’s see, I was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where it was just my mother and I at home. Although I was an only child, I had a very fun childhood. I loved being creative and spending time with my family. As I grew older, things got a bit tough when I reached high school. I struggled academically and lost my confidence which created a lot of discouragement, leading me to mentally checking out of school altogether. At 17, I found out I was pregnant, which marked the beginning of a very challenging journey as a single parent. I vividly remember the shame I felt as most of my friends were preparing to go off to college, while I was preparing to become a mother. Thankfully, I had the support of my loving parents and family, so community is something I’ve been blessed to have along the way.
Shortly after my high school graduation in 2009, I had my daughter Aaleyah. Welcoming her into the world motivated me to grow and learn from my life experiences. With God’s guidance, I navigated through life’s challenges and began encouraging and motivating others to do the same. In 2015, I proudly graduated with my Associates degree at 24.
Two years later, in 2017, I happily welcomed my second child Jaylen, and found myself in need of a community of mothers. I decided to start a Facebook group called Mom 2 Mom, where us moms supported and spent time with one another. That group eventually grew into a nonprofit organization where we assisted mothers and their families with school supplies and meals during the holidays. We also launched an apparel line with empowering affirmations for moms.
Around that time, I was still unsure about my purpose in life, so I spent a couple of years trying out different things—I sold hair extensions, built websites, and did makeup and eyelash extensions for weddings. I became a Jill of All Trades if you will —haha. It wasn’t until I hired a Life Coach that I realized my calling was to help others in a similar way. Motivated by that experience, in 2019, I became a Certified Life Coach and published my first book, “Girl Get Over Him,” a guide to help women navigate breakups.
In 2022, I decided to go back to school to pursue a degree in Psychology & Counseling, aiming to dig deeper into behavioral health. As someone who struggled academically, it’s a blessing that I’ll be graduating with my Bachelors Degree next year. Then in 2023, I published a self-love workbook titled “It Starts with You”, that walks women through their life experiences, helping them forge a more intimate relationship with themselves. Finally, later that year, I launched “The Soul Good Podcast,” which has become my newest baby. Our podcast is a safe space for people to feel seen, heard, and loved as we share our life stories.
I’m blessed to be able to say that within our first year, we’ve grown to reach 108 cities and 17 countries across the globe. We’ve recently branched out into creating safe spaces in the physical form with local events here in Houston catered to helping people heal. It’s an honor to love what I do in this space, as I feel that serving others in this capacity is the work that God intended for me to do.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not! My journey has been far from a smooth road. Like most young parents, I struggled with learning how to be a mom at such a young age. Being responsible for both a child and myself made it really difficult for me to figure out who I was. My personal development was delayed in some areas because I was so focused on surviving while taking care of my daughter. I think most parents can relate to the fact that we give so much of ourselves to raising our children and caring for our families. They become our #1 priority in life and we can easily lose ourselves in that process if we lack balance and support.
It wasn’t until the last few years that I really began working on my own healing, especially when I understood the ways in which my trauma was negatively affecting my children. I didn’t even realize the extent of what I had been through until I started unpacking those struggles in therapy. Even with all the work I’ve done to heal, I’m still discovering so much about myself. I was a mother before I ever identified as a woman, so I try to allow myself to gracefully evolve into womanhood.
Growing up together hasn’t always been easy, but in this space, I’m thankful for the support, grace, and unconditional love my kids have given me along the way. I’m also thankful that God loved me enough to turn my pain into purpose, as my life struggles have not been in vain. My testimony has afforded me an opportunity to serve others and that in and of itself is a blessing that I will forever be grateful for.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Although I’m a Creative with lots of passions, I’ve been in Property Management for 14 years, starting out as a Leasing Agent. Initially, I stayed in the industry because it provided me with discounted housing, which was really convenient at the time as a single mother. Most of my needs were met, as I always had a steady income and a roof over our heads. Throughout my tenure, I’ve worked my way up the corporate ladder, earning my first promotion after a couple years and eventually becoming a Jr. Regional Manager, just before relocating to Texas in 2023.
Currently, the work that I do as a space holder is really important to me. Whether I’m showing homes, recording an episode of my podcast, or simply having a conversation with a stranger at the grocery store, my goal is to create safe space for people to feel seen, heard and loved. I think we live in a society that doesn’t have enough of that right now and I’ve learned that’s something we all need. I’m known for being a risk taker and stepping out on faith to accomplish the goals/visions I’ve had for most of my life. People are often inspired by my bravery, but what they don’t see is the paralyzing fear, the many failures, and the moments of uncertainty I have when bringing these visions to life. I’m an overthinker so at times I question my abilities and my lack of resources. That’s why I’m most proud of my faith and how it’s allowed me to lean on God when I don’t have the answers or know how things will get done. I pray that when people see my story they feel inspired to allow God into their hearts and their lives, trusting that nothing is off limits when you partner with Him.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Aside from realizing that a lot of people weren’t washing their hands regularly—haha— the COVID-19 Crisis taught me a lot. The main lesson was that life can change drastically at any time, and we have to be willing to adjust to our surroundings. I say willing because change can be very hard for us to cope with, especially when it brings you to the mercy of entities outside of yourself. At the end of the day, we’re all humans who can at times be set in our ways of comfort and routine. The inevitable truth is that change is uncomfortable. Even in the midst of a crisis, change forces us to do and learn new things. Our will in this process ultimately determines how change affects us and our lives.
Watching the world stop and change everything we knew about daily life really drove home the importance of adaptability. We were all sort of waiting for things to go back to normal, but I learned that sometimes in the face of change and adversity, you have to choose to create a new normal that works best for you. This historically difficult time gave people the opportunity to reinvent themselves while taking back control of their lives. I think that’s incredibly powerful, as it really just demonstrates how resilient we are and how God can use a crisis to create new things in and for us.
