I was born with a passion for color. Growing up in Colombia, I started decorating my dollhouse with fabric scraps from my aunt’s workroom. This early love for design and rich textiles led me to study fashion design when I moved to the U.S. My fascination with luxurious fabrics, couture clothing, and opulent colors pushed me to deepen my knowledge in pattern making and interior design.
My unique blend of creativity and sophisticated elegance allowed me to work with Ralph Lauren Home, an iconic brand known for its prolific designs. This experience was invaluable, teaching me the importance of combining timeless design with meticulous craftsmanship. Guided by an eye for design and a precise attention to exquisite detail, I decided to open my own workroom in 2001
Establishing my own business was a dream come true, but it wasn’t without its challenges.
During economic downturns, I diversified my skills by working in retail at furniture stores.
This not only helped me stay afloat but also provided mme with deeper insights into space planning and high- end- decor, further enriching the services I could offer my clients.
For the past eight years, I have been dedicated full- time to my passion: making beautiful rooms that reflect my clients personal styles. At Houston Draperies, we focus on delivering precisely crafted, custom tailored drapes and home decor pieces that transform spaces into works of art. Our approach is deeply personal, ensuring that each project is a unique reflection of our clients vision and lifestyle.
My journey has been one of continuous learning and adaptation. From my humble beginnings in Colombia
To working with one of the most renowned names in home decor, and finally , to running my own successful business, I have always been driven by a passion for creating beauty through design.
Today, Houston Draperies is a testament to that passion, offer trusted, artistic, and professional services that make every room we touch truly special.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of my biggest obstacles when starting my business was establishing credit to maintain a healthy cash flow. As a single parent, starting and running a business presented its own unique challenges.
Balancing the responsibilities of raising children while building a business from the ground up required immense determination and resilience.
In the early days finding the right people for the job, who shared my vision and long- term goals was a significant challenge. I had to ensure that every team member not only had the skills and expertise but also the passion and commitment to uphold the high standards of the clients.
This process taught me the importance of patience and persistence in building a dedicated and talented team.
Another challenge was establishing a strong market presence in a competitive industry. I had to continually innovate and differentiate my offerings to ensure that Houston Draperies stood out.
