Today we’d like to introduce you to Eduardo Martínez
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a Cuban who since I was very young always dreamed of achieving success in life to improve the quality of life of my family because I come from a very humble background, I was a very energetic child always looking for ways to take advantage of all those situations that would bring me closer to my goals, I had my first business at the age of 13 and it was a total failure, from there I began to try to develop all the ideas that seemed good to me, so I continued cultivating failures, with a total of 5 businesses that did not go well, I made the decision to enter the University of Holguin (UHO) and study Industrial Engineering to learn about how the business world works, it was not until I was 23 that I was able to have my first success, a lottery business in my hometown Holguin, ironically a short time later I made the decision to leave my country due to problems I had with the government as a result of my political position. Like many emigrants, I traveled through some Central American countries until I reached Mexico, a country that I love and to which I have too much to thank. I lived there for two years until I was able to enter the USA in March 2021. My welcome here was to be held in a detention center for several months, but I knew that even though I was there I was already on American soil, the place where I always dreamed of being and where I would be able to achieve my goals. I spent some time working as a barber, a trade that I learned on my journey and even though I felt very good at it, there was something inside me that told me that I should look for something more in line with my ambitions. That’s where the idea of creating a multi-service agency dedicated to covering many of the needs of the Latino community in our city was born. I had some vague knowledge about business, taxes, and marketing from my time as a university student, so I decided to take advantage of this and continue my professional growth and dedicate myself to this world that today gives me the possibility of helping my community and at the same time feeling like a professional. accomplished as an entrepreneur.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
We all have setbacks in our life journey. One event that left a deep mark on me was when I was detained in somewhat harsh conditions for a few months for participating in a riot at an immigration detention center in Mexico. I would also say that I had to live completely alone and isolated during the COVID period when I lived in Cancun, a city where I had no family and loneliness can be a harsh teacher. Even so, I am convinced that these moments are an essential part of my personal makeup.
