Rising Stars: Meet Lizz Gonzalez of Downtown Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lizz Gonzalez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I moved at the age of 12 to the United States from El Salvador, we chose South Padre Island since it was the closest thing that reminded us of home. My mother took a job as a house keeper at a privately owned beachfront hotel. My father worked maintenance for the same hotel. The years passed and I was finally able to work, I decided to work as a waitress at the hotel as my parents. However, I shortly realized that maybe waitressing wasn’t for me, so I decided to look into hotel sales careers, unfortunately the hotel could only offer me a front desk job but it was a start! There I learned all the ins and outs of proper customer service and about the hotel. I then found a job at another hotel but I chose to work an overnight front desk position. This would help me learn about this new property, within four months an opportunity in sales opened up and I eagerly applied. I got the job! I was the new Group rooms coordinator for the Pearl hotel. I was on the road to climb the latter and learned all that I could for my next position, Event Management, then Sales Manager. Once I hit that Sales Manager job I decided it was time to move to a bigger city, HOUSTON! Ive been at several hotels, extended stay, limited services, full service and finally found Magnolia Houston Downtown. Ive loved every position I had solely because it has taught me all that I know now.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There has been struggles, every hotel has a different way of running things and ultimately sometimes its best to walk away no matter how great the opportunity was. I know I will persevere and give my all when im at a property

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My goal is to assist clients with their unique hotel requirements and bring their vision to life during their stay. I have a strong track record, having received numerous accolades for enhancing office systems’ efficiency and streamlining processes to boost productivity. As a naturally competitive and ambitious leader, I am committed to excelling in any role I undertake. I aim to provide outstanding service and value to all clients and partners I collaborate with.

The cherry on top for me is when my client has a successful event and tells me how happy they were book with us.

What’s next?
Well, right now I’m pregnant with my first baby, a boy! I hear motherhood makes big changes in your life so as of right now I’d like to continue my career as an Event Manager but may decide to take a traditional sales role where I dont oversee the events. My first priority will be the baby and my family.
