Conversations with Sorry, Sarah

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sorry, Sarah

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started writing songs as a child and picked up guitar in my teenage years. In the decade that followed, I played open mics, learned bass, and performed in multiple bands. A little over a year ago, I created my own band called Sorry, Sarah. Since then, we’ve played multiple venues in Houston and I’m now in the process of recording my first record.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has been liberating to allow myself to grow as an artist. Each musician that I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with has inspired me to push myself further. Whenever I hit a creative block, I remind myself of a quote by artist Pablo Picasso where he explains it takes “a lifetime to paint like a child.” It’s important to me to allow myself to write music freely and not worry about the final result.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I write songs and perform in my band Sorry, Sarah. We present what I describe as “dreamy alternative rock. ” If you are in Houston, come out to a show sometime! I am so proud to be part of the vibrant local music community. There are so many incredible bands here.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Creativity! It’s important to stay inspired and creative. I often think about the rule of improv: “yes, and.”
