Conversations with Victoria Kay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Kay

Hi Victoria , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started modeling in 2021 as a way to get more comfortable in front of the camera. Since then I have dedicated myself to taking on modeling as a career. Currently I am not signed with an agency, but I hope to change that soon.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Before modeling I was very uncomfortable taking pictures of myself or having photos taken of me. Overcoming insecurity has been a long journey with many setbacks. Even to this day I find myself feeling insecure from time to time but I now have the tools to snap myself out of that mindset.
The modeling and fashion industry is slowly becoming more inclusive to those who are curvier and those who have a more alternative appearance, but it still has a long way to go. As someone trying to make their mark in the modeling world who has visible tattoos, stretch marks, and is on the curvier side, my appearance isn’t something you come across often in this industry. This has posed challenges when trying to find work but I preserve because I know that there is space for me in this industry, and if not then I’ll make that space for myself.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a freelance model. I specialize in editorial work and runway. Something I did recently that I’m proud of was I walked for two designers, Kim Moh and Kameereo, in the Couture A La Mode fashion show here in Houston.
I also dabble in acting. The coolest experience I’ve had so far with that is I was an extra for the Netflix show Mo season 2.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
First and foremost I would like to thank my husband and mother for supporting me. If it wasn’t for them believing in me even when I struggled to believe in myself I might not have pursued this career.
My daughter is my biggest inspiration. I want to be her role model and be a mother she is proud of.
