Hi Tasneem, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My Creative Camp is a craft company focusing on paper quilling, a growing and untapped niche within the crafts industry. Our products are aligned with customer experience and are perfect for gifting. From the packaging to the curated supplies to the learning process, the product provides a satisfying journey. Our focus is that at the end, the learner/maker creates a work of art which is perfect to display or gift and can be proud of.
Zahra and Tasneem are the dynamic duo behind this brand. Their passion for paper artistry and entrepreneurial spirit collided at a paint night where Zahra was teaching. Things came about as they talked about creating things and the lack of proper learning and curated materials in the market. United by a shared love for the art of quilling, they set out to make this craft accessible to all.
Zahra, a self-taught expert in quilling, kirigami, and modular origami, brings her artistic flair to the forefront. On the other hand, Tasneem, an e-commerce entrepreneur, infuses their venture with a touch of business acumen.
Our journey began with a vision: to provide budding artists and curious crafters with the tools they need to unlock their creative potential. Our first creation, the Beginner’s Quilling Kit, is an all-inclusive package designed to introduce you to the mesmerizing world of paper quilling. This was such a huge success that we have been building new kits and adding more offerings.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
We had to really figure out how to get things made. We did not have experience in making a product, finding suppliers, packagers and shippers. Also, this was not easy as we started right when Covid hit. After that initial brief meeting, we didn’t even meet in person until 7 months later! In the middle of this all, Zahra uprooted herself from California and moved to Houston. Tasneem followed suit a little later as well.
In the very first year, we didn’t anticipate how well our Beginner’s Kit would do and we sold out in the first 6 months. This sounds good but logistically, we had a hard time getting back in stock. 3 years onwards, we now have a pretty good inventory management and a better grasp on production cycles and the business side.
We’ve been impressed with My Creative Camp, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Our first creation, the Beginner’s Quilling Kit, is an all-inclusive package designed to introduce you to the mesmerizing world of paper quilling. You can learn to quill with beginner-friendly tutorials and our step-by-step, easy-to-follow, colorful instructions available in both English and Spanish. Plus, our YouTube tutorials make it even simpler to follow along.
But we didn’t stop there! Our Quilling Tools Kit is a versatile companion for paper quilling, paper bead making, flower curling, and crafting intricate flower centers.
Since then we have launched the Greeting Cards Quilling Kit – a DIY kit to make your own personalized greeting cards and gift tags for those special occasions. In this kit too, we provide beginner friendly step-by-step instructions in English and Spanish, tools, materials, supplies, and video tutorials.
And most recently, we have released the Inspiration Series: Mini Kit – it is the perfect on-the-go project. It comes in various designs with tools, materials, and instructions included.
What’s next?
The future is creative!
As more people are turning to making things and finding joy in activities where they can learn a craft, we are seeing an even more spike in interest. We plan on adding more interesting themed mini kits and guided projects.
