Daily Inspiration: Meet Heather O’harra

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather O’harra

Hi Heather, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
About 6 years ago, I had been looking for an activity that my daughter and I could do together. My daughter, Kayley was born with a rare genetic disorder that affects her mobility as well as has given her an intellectual disability. We were introduced to Ainsley’s Angels of America through a friend. This non-profit we’ve come to be a part of has been life changing for our whole family allowing my daughter to be part of something amazing within our community.

On October 5th, Ainsley’s Angels is hosting their annual Twilight 5k and Celebration of Inclusion. The event is free for anyone with a disability. Ainsley’s Angels will provide each person with a disability a racing chariot along with a volunteer pusher that will get them across the finish line.

We would love to invite our Greater Houston community to be a part of this amazing event. Not only are we inviting our individuals with disabilities, but we would love to extend the invitation to our entire community to come on out and show your support for inclusion. Whether you decide to participate by walking or running, or should you come to cheer on our athletes with disabilities, you will leave with your heart feeling inspired for others.

This event is our annual fundraiser. Ainsley’s Angels depends on community donations to fund and purchase equipment for athletes with disabilities. The Axiom racing chair, crucial for our athletes, costs around $5,550 each. To support this, we host the annual Ainsley’s Angels Twilight 5k & Celebration of Inclusion held at the Tomball ISD Stadium and Event Center, raising funds for equipment and other expenses to keep our Greater Houston ambassadorship thriving.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been very challenging in finding something that my daughter can participate in due to her disabilities. Ainsley’s Angels has provided us with an activity that we can do together as a family while advocating for inclusion within our greater Houston community. The joy that my daughter has on race day is indescribable which is why we would love to share this experience with others by inviting them to our Ainsley’s Angels Twilight 5k Race and Celebration of Inclusion.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
