Life & Work with Nicole Leclair of Katy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nicole Leclair

Hi Nicole, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
It was Labor Weekend of 2015 that our founding board of directors decided that their current running community was no longer serving their running goals. In the following months they gathered like minded runners and discussed what they wanted and needed from a running club. From those discussions Katy’s only 501c3 non-profit running club was formed and officially launched in February of 2016. The first signup garnered just over 50 signups. Our club has continued to grow and expand since then and now has just under 500 members who love to run and serve their community.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As with any large, diverse group managing personalities, expectations, and needs constantly provides new obstacles to overcome.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
Within the Katy Area Running Club’s Board of Directors I’ve served for the last two years as their Director of Events. What’s so unique about KARC is all of our profits go straight back into the community. While we do host monthly member socials our largest get together is our Back to School 5K that takes place every year on Labor Day. We spend the first Monday in September with our favorite beneficiaries, Ainsley’s Angels. Ainsley’s Angels is dedicated to ensuring that everyone can participate in endurance events and to raising awareness about the special needs community. They focus on education, advocacy, and promoting inclusion and diversity in every aspect of life. KARC is so proud to partner with Ainsley’s and be legs behind their chariots. In the last few years, KARC has had such a great turnout at B2S we’ve been able to extend our donations to Lunches of Love, as well. LoL feeds children in need and those qualifying for the state’s free lunch program. They are committed to helping end childhood hunger. Both of our beneficiaries are doing amazing work within the Greater Houston community.

Can you share something surprising about yourself?
KARC’s board of directors and every person that coordinates with us for B2S or any other event is a volunteer
