Today we’d like to introduce you to Trent Mckinney
Hi Trent, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My design journey began in late October 2018 while I was attending a training class for a call center role. Although the training didn’t excite me, I knew I needed to find a way to supplement my income, so I decided to pursue freelance graphic design. I started by replicating the famous logos and wordmarks I had always admired, using them as a foundation to develop my skills.
As training continued, I spent my weekends at niche bookstores—not the typical Barnes and Noble or Half Price Books—searching for brand guidelines, graphic design materials, and fashion lookbooks. I immersed myself in studying these resources, determined to discover my own voice and what unique contributions I could bring to the design world.
By early January, I took a bold step forward in my journey by obtaining my Texas Sales and Tax permit, signaling that I was ready to fully commit to entrepreneurship. From that point on, I knew I was prepared to “jump off the porch” and build something of my own.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The journey to success has been far from easy, but I’ve relied heavily on my faith and ambition to push through. I’ve learned that perseverance is key if I want to succeed as an entrepreneur. Over time, I’ve encountered several individuals who initially approached me with ideas for collaboration, only to later attempt to take advantage of my business knowledge and sideline me to gain their own competitive edge. However, understanding the lengths some people go to just to make a sale has helped me stand apart. I genuinely care about the art and designs I produce, and that passion has sometimes required personal sacrifices to keep going. Despite these challenges, I remain committed to my craft because I believe in its value.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about intel-agressif?
I am the founder of intel-agressif, a design studio based in Houston, TX. The core philosophy behind the business is rooted in the concept of “aggressive intelligence.” While I’m still refining its full meaning, it’s more of a mindset than a fixed principle. It represents the idea that being relentless in the pursuit of knowledge and growth leads to success. It’s about never accepting “no” as the final answer and being committed to pushing forward with faith and determination. With this approach, I believe that challenges can be overcome, and success becomes inevitable through aggressive intelligence.
What’s next?
I envision releasing a sneaker in collaboration with Jordan Brand in the future. From there, I aim to continue building partnerships with Nike and other iconic brands I grew up admiring, as well as newer brands that resonate with youth and culture—like Supreme, Stussy, Apple, and Sony. My goal is to approach these collaborations in a way that makes sense for both sides, contributing creatively and meaningfully.
Beyond design, I want to make an impact as an influential figure promoting peace, education, and philanthropy. I’m also passionate about bringing the attention and urgency that climate change deserves. My focus is more on scientific awareness rather than political debates, with the aim of fostering real change on a global scale.
