Maria’s Story: The Heart Behind Mamá Leticia
A Legacy of Love
I’m Maria, the founder of Mamá Leticia, and I’d like to share a story that’s very close to my heart. My mother, Leticia, was an extraordinary woman—an entrepreneur who embodied optimism, innovation, and creativity. She was not only my mother but also my greatest inspiration and the best gift God ever gave me.

Seeds of Creativity
From a young age, my mother instilled in me a love for arts and crafts. Those moments spent together nurtured a seed of creativity in my heart. In her honor, I founded Mamá Leticia in 2021 as a tribute to her legacy and the values she passed down to me.

A Transformative Journey
Transitioning from an executive housewife to an inventor and designer has been a remarkable journey. Sewing became my passion and a form of therapy, providing solace for my mental health. Each stitch connects me to my mother and her spirit of resilience.

A Special Design
One of my first creations is an embroidered journal cover, inspired by a portrait of roses that my mother painted for me. It’s a cherished piece that is now part of an exhibition at the Health Museum’s Healing Hands program. I invite everyone to check it out—it’s a celebration of healing through art.

Innovative Crafting
Among my other designs, I’m proud to share my utility bookmark, which elevates the reading experience. This versatile bookmark has eight unique features:

Corner bookmark
Pen holder
Pouch for notes, affirmations, or sticky notes
Coaster
Christmas tree decoration
Meeting binder Tab
Key chain
Currently patent pending
Looking Ahead
Mamá Leticia is not just a brand; it’s a celebration of creativity, love, and resilience. I’m excited to continue this journey, crafting unique pieces that inspire and uplift others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Obstacles and Challenges in My Journey as a Sewer
Embarking on my journey as a sewer has been both rewarding and challenging. While my passion drives me, the obstacles I encounter serve as significant tests of my resilience and creativity. Here are some key challenges I’ve faced:

1. Intense Market Competition

The market for handmade goods is fiercely competitive. Many consumers gravitate towards large retail chains, often overlooking the time and effort that goes into handcrafted creations. Competing against mass-produced items requires me to not only enhance my skills but also to differentiate my work. I strive to communicate the unique story behind each piece, emphasizing the craftsmanship and dedication involved.

Establishing a recognizable brand in a crowded market is no small feat. Many talented artisans struggle to gain visibility.

One of the toughest challenges I face is pricing my creations appropriately. It’s essential to balance the costs of materials, labor, and overhead while remaining competitive. This requires thorough market research and a deep understanding of the value my handmade items bring. I strive to educate customers about the quality and uniqueness of my work, helping them appreciate the investment.

Each obstacle I encounter as a sewer strengthens my resolve and sharpens my skills. My journey is one of continuous learning and adaptation. Embracing challenges not only makes me a better entrepreneur but also deepens my passion for my craft. With resilience and determination, I look forward to overcoming future hurdles and achieving my goals.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As an artist, my creations are born from a deep well of inspiration, each piece reflecting a unique vision and perspective. I strive to capture the essence of individuality in my work, infusing each piece with distinct elements that tell their own story. My art is a celebration of creativity, designed to resonate with viewers on multiple levels, inviting them to explore and connect with the emotions and ideas behind each piece. Through vibrant colors, intricate details, and innovative techniques, I aim to create a transformative experience that highlights the beauty of uniqueness in every aspect.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
As an entrepreneur, I proudly identify as a risk-taker, and I embrace the challenges that come with this mindset. For me, risk-taking is not just about stepping outside my comfort zone; it’s about making calculated decisions that align with my passion and vision. It means having the courage to pursue opportunities even when the outcome is uncertain.

Being a risk-taker means believing wholeheartedly in what I do and understanding the ‘why’ behind my actions. It involves recognizing that every challenge is an opportunity for growth, and every setback is a lesson learned. I thrive on finding innovative solutions to obstacles, whether it’s competing against larger chains or navigating market fluctuations.

In my journey, I’ve learned that taking risks is essential for success. It’s about being willing to invest time, resources, and energy into my craft, knowing that with perseverance and resilience, I can overcome any hurdle. The key to successful risk-taking lies in balancing passion with practicality—having faith in my abilities while remaining adaptable to change.

Ultimately, risk-taking fuels my entrepreneurial spirit. It empowers me to push boundaries, explore new avenues, and continuously evolve. Embracing the unknown is not just a part of my journey; it’s the driving force that keeps my passion alive and my business thriving.
