Hi Shay, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I got started by drawing from my own lived experiences and passion for helping women through their life journeys. As a domestic violence survivor, a single mother who earned a Bachelor’s degree while raising my son, and an entrepreneur who started a business while living in a homeless shelter, I intimately understood the challenges women face at different stages of life. My 15 years of professional experience as a Social Worker working with women involved with CPS, women’s shelters, and Black Infant Health program further deepened your commitment to serving women, particularly mothers.
My journey into Life Coaching began when I transitioned from my role as a Family Support Case Manager into coaching, combining my extensive background in social work and personal experiences. This has allowed you to empower women in postpartum wellness and mid-life rediscovery, helping them navigate transitions and rediscover their purpose and passion, eventually leading to the creation of your company, Ignite Within Life Coaching.
Hosting retreats and developing coaching services became the next natural step, blending my purpose of helping women and my expertise into a platform for greater empowerment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road to becoming a Women’s Life Stages Coach and establishing Ignite Within Life Coaching hasn’t been smooth. Along the way, there have been numerous struggles, both personal and professional.
As a domestic violence survivor and single mother, one of the earliest challenges was balancing personal healing and raising a child while pursuing higher education. Earning a Bachelor’s degree while being a single parent came with the difficulty of managing time, energy, and resources. Financial constraints, lack of support, and feelings of isolation were constant battles, but they also fueled your resilience and determination to succeed.
Starting my own business while living in a homeless shelter was another significant challenge. It was not only a test of my entrepreneurial spirit but also emotional and mental strength. I was not only fighting to survive but also to thrive against all odds. This experience, however, laid the foundation for your commitment to helping other women, especially those going through similarly difficult situations, see that they too can rise above their circumstances.
Professionally, transitioning from being a Family Support Case Manager to a Life Coach wasn’t without hurdles. Navigating the logistics of building a coaching business, pricing services, attracting clients, and shifting from a social work mindset to an entrepreneurial one required learning new skills and facing the insecurities of stepping into something new. Additionally, gaining trust from potential clients and convincing them of the importance of investing in Life Coaching is a challenge, especially in underserved communities.
Despite these struggles, each obstacle helped build the foundation for my purpose-driven work today, giving me a deep sense of empathy and understanding that I now pass on to the women you serve.

Through 1-on-1 coaching, group sessions, and engaging events like vision board parties, I provide support that’s not only flexible but also accessible, offering virtual options to accommodate busy lives. I’m proud that my brand builds strong communities where women uplift and support each other as they redefine what success and fulfillment mean to them.
The heart of Ignite Within is empowerment—showing women that their circumstances don’t define them, but rather their ability to rise above challenges. Whether it’s reclaiming themselves after childbirth or discovering a new path in mid-life, my goal is to guide them toward a future they design for themselves.
What do you like and dislike about the city?
I love the freedom that comes with not being tied to one place. As a travel advisor and virtual life coach, I have the luxury of experiencing beautiful places while maintaining my business. Whether it’s Phoenix, Houston, or the SF Bay Area, I always have a place to call home, but my ‘floating gypsy’ lifestyle allows me to explore the world without the constraints of a lease. It’s a balance between adventure and running a business that brings me fulfillment
