Rising Stars: Meet Sarah Bruney of Katy, Texas

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah Bruney

Hi Sarah, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Throughout my years in education, I have rooted myself in one central core value; kids are uniquely and beautifully made and deserve to learn in a fun, challenging, accepting and uniquely tailored learning environment. I have always admired educators who think outside the box and just “get it”. Shortly after I moved to Katy, Amanda and I quickly knew we shared the same values. We had similar goals and aspirations me to have a learning place and her to have a social communication play place. Both places designed to meet kids where they were and offer them the best learning experience. Our story originated as an idea to bring a mobile classroom to our community. A literal and figurative vehicle to teach and support ALL children in our community and parents who were navigating neuro diversities and how to help their children. We hit many set backs securing funds to even start so we knew we had to start somewhere. We started with in home tutoring and doing what we could with what we had. We quickly realized the need for our services in the community was overwhelming and we switched our goal. We found teachers with similar core values and we made our team bigger, the bigger we got the more impact we made. The feed back from the community and our parents pushed us to keep GOING. We partnered up with another local business, Hooray Indoor and Playground to offer bi- monthly social learning events on a bigger scale. The interest in Going Places grew every month, as did our team, as did our drive, and most importantly our faith that we are living our purpose to the fullest. In August we opened the doors to our very own PLACE. The families and the students that we serve are our WHY. God continues to push us to serve day after day. We currently offer after school tutoring and speech therapy as well as social events on Saturdays. Our plans are to keep pouring faith into our passion project. We hope to soon have more to offer the community and are committed to never stop GOING PLACES.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Absolutely not smooth! There have been so many setbacks, obstacles and challenges but we needed every single one of them. In life there will always be obstacles but that’s where you remember your purpose is meant to be so much bigger and keep your faith in God. The obstacles in the path somehow become the path, thats what Going Places is all about.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a certified teacher in both general and special education. I have been blessed in my career to have had a wealth of experiences in many different programs and methodologies as well as administrators who pushed me to experience more to gain a multitude of perspectives. I have been in education for the past 16 years with experience in higher elementary all subjects, dual language programs, special education programs as well as intervention at many levels. What I have learned through all of these experiences is that the most important thing a teacher can do for a student is form a meaningful relationship and let that be the basis of everything.

How do you think about happiness?
The connections I get to make with my students and their families. Watching our team of amazing professionals do what we love to do and make progress with our students. Also, the encouragement we get from our own families along the way from our personal kids helping with every phase of our jorney and witnessing the lessons they learn by serving through this whole process.
