Daily Inspiration: Meet Kristen Garro

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristen Garro

Hi Kristen, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
13 Years ago I found myself pregnant and looking for purpose beyond motherhood, I started my own fitness business for moms like myself who wanted to live a healthy and active lifestyle while raising babies. As a mother of 3, I realized pretty quickly I needed to make shifts to be a present mom, and I transitioned my business online, and became a life coach and yoga teacher. I found yoga when I was in the depths of a PTSD relapse and realized that the stored trauma in my body was wrecking havoc on my nervous system. Yoga helped me get back into my body, and begin to regulate my nervous system. I became a yoga teacher and created Embody Her Flow for women. I’ve always had a passion for women’s health and wellbeing, Embody Her Flow was the perfect alchemy of mindfulness and movement, that I always craved.
I’ve lived in Houston for 2 years with my husband, 3 kids (who I have homeschooled since the pandemic) and Rottweiler. I’ve come to love Houston and the community we’ve found here.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not, As a mom and business owner I have had many challenges and obstacles to overcome. A big obstacle for me was in 2019 I started having panic attacks and severe anxiety related to past trauma, by 2021 I had to take a break from my business to work on my own mental health and wellbeing. Coming back from this challenge was extremely difficult, as I felt shame that I had to take a break, but the comeback is always greater than the setback and I used that to get back to this place. My experience is also a pivotal part of my work, because I know firsthand the importance of mental health and taking the time to care for our wellbeing.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a Life Coach and Yoga teacher. I work with midlife-ish women on their self-compassion, mindfulness, movement, and everything in-between! This phase of life I like to call midlife-ish, heavy emphasis on the ISH, is a transition that is wild and unexpected for women as volatile hormone shifts can feel like the ground is ripped out from under you, having a support system and daily habits can provide stability. I love creating yoga flows specifically for the cyclical nature of women. Embody Her Flow provides an all inclusive virtual space for women to access yoga classes (free and paid available) who want to explore their relationship with their mind & body. It’s not a traditional yoga class, I create flows and teach body awareness with the mental visualization of how the body responds and reacts, quieting the mind to drop into the body. I believe that yoga is for everyBODY and there is no “yoga body.” Embody Her Flow is a safe space for women/her (including all who identify as women/her) to come and FLOW with us, the reason I chose a virtual studio so that any women with internet access, can join.
I think what sets me apart and what I am most proud of is myself, it takes a lot to admit that, but I have been to the deepest darkest depths to come out on the other side with so much knowledge and empowerment.
