Life & Work with Ricky Cruz of Brookside village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricky Cruz

Hi Ricky, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
my story started as a young man that struggled with alcohol as a young man . i always felt as if didn’t belong. my father was a hard working man that taught us to work hard and did the best her could to bring us ahead. as a young adult in high school i always wondered why i couldn’t drink like all the others, i always got lost in the bottle . fast forward to 2010. i was introduced to crack cocaine which consumes my life. i got addicted. i had previously opened my own mechanic shop in 1996 and had gotten married a few years before that and had two daughters . i put them all on the street because of my addiction. i went to jail because of my addiction, went to THREE rehabs and the final one seemed to help because i met my sponsor who helped me find god and start trusting in a higher power than myself. i came back to town to show and prove to my children that i could do it. that i could pick up the broken pieces of my life and prosper. at one point i was financially , spiritually and emotionally broken but by the grace of GOD im here fighting every single day to survive . every day is a struggle . but i don’t allow myself to get in my own way today.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not been a smooth road. living life on life’s terms has not been easy especially since having to live a sober life . problems and issues in my past typically will try to make one drink and being sober has taught me to reboot my life .

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
im a automotive technician but i eventually found out i was better in sales and beganer to be a service writer for my company. im really good in person to person relations. im most proud of being a father. i think what sets be apart from others is my compassion towards people

What do you like and dislike about the city?
i like best of our city is the diversity. the mix of people and cultures . what i least is the traffic
