Life & Work with Isela Lezama Martinez of South East Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Isela Lezama Martinez

Hi Isela, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hello, my name is Isela Lezama Martínez, I’m 31 years old I was born in Mexico City and came to this great country at age six, I’m the founder and Aesthetician at Isela Skin Aesthetically Pretty. I discovered my passion for the beauty industry at a young age, my mom is a cosmetologist and I’ve always been surrounded by all things beauty. I started as a makeup artist in 2014, I was lost and didn’t know what I wanted to do so I took a make-up course that opened many doors including my first spa job! Where I was introduced to the art of body contouring and luxurious skincare treatments. I was so excited and wanted to know more, I kept training with amazing women who were willing to teach me. I made the sacrifice to quit that job I love to work a part time cashier job to pay for my education to get license in the state of Texas. After that I work, learned, trained, and perfected my techniques for 6 years before taking the leap of faith and going solo. Isela Skin Aesthetically Pretty has been in business for 3 years now, thanks to God, I’m in awe every day of my life since because I get the opportunity to not only do what I love but to help women in my city look, and feel their very best. I take pride in my work and I’m so thankful for all the amazing people I’ve met along the way.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road, I was raised by a single mom who taught me so many things including my confidence and to work hard for my dreams. Thanks to that I have overcome struggles along the way. One of the hardest challenges I’ve faced is not being born in this country, so many doors have closed because of that but I’m convinced God has placed the right people in my life to help me get here and for that I’m extremely thankful.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m extremely proud of my work ethic and the industry I chose because it never stops growing, therefore I never stop learning. I do all body and skincare, I specialize in Dermaplaning Facials and Post-op Care Massages after any liposuction, tummy tuck, bbl, or mommy makeover. These services are my most booked and are also what I enjoy doing the most. I love the difference my services make in my client’s post-op recovery and skincare routine! I take pride in the results my treatments provide. I try to get to know what brought each client into my treatment room and customize a treatment plan to achieve desirable results. I’ve learned to understand how important getting to know someone can make a difference in the service you provide.
My work speaks for itself and Isela Skin Aesthetically Pretty being on some of the world’s top plastic surgeons Houston’s referral list is a great reward.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
One thing I’ve learned During The COVID-19 crisis was to be brave. I was working for someone else and I was miserable, I remember I got COVID-19 and was sick for days and my boss thought I was lying, I remember thinking who would lie about being this sick in the middle of a pandemic. It was eye-opening. It fueled me to be better and to go after my dreams and in the middle of the pandemic I got terminated from that job and opened Isela Skin Aesthetically Pretty. It was one of the scariest decisions I’ve made but my faith in God and myself made it possible.
