Conversations with Michelle Marquina

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michelle Marquina

Hi Michelle, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
First and foremost thank you so much for this opportunity to share my story.

Growing up I saw both my parents start businesses of their own. I knew that one day I would want the same for myself. Little did I know that once I became a mom I would get the push I needed. I struggled to adjust to my new life and identity. I stopped taking care of myself for the first few months and I found myself in dire need of self care so I did what most girls do and I booked that appointment lashes, nails, hair etc.. I loved doing anything that helped me look and feel my best especially in the beauty industry. I soon after fell in love with the idea of helping others feel their best. I decided to venture out to learn a service I can provide that didn’t require me to quit my current 9-5. I came across Teeth whitening and tooth gem and after some research I took a leap of faith decided to get certified. May 2023 I stared taking appointments and launched my business Iced Smiles. Since then I’ve had the pleasure of meeting incredible people and the opportunity to enhance their smiles. I watched my clients leave my chair feeling more confident after their appointment. The feeling is unmatched I knew I had found something that I loved.
I recently started doing pop ups in the Houston/Katy area doing tooth gems. Tooth gems are semi permanent and a neat way to add bling to your smile. You are able to get creative or keep it simple depending on your liking needless to say your smile will definitely stand and grab people’s attention. Starting this business gave me the confidence boost that I can do anything I set my mind to and now my daughter who is 7 years old is wanting to start a business of her own one day. I love having the flexibility to provide my services in my private suite or mobile where I go to you. I feel blessed to have found this opportunity and I’m excited to continue to grow my business.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The road has definitely not been easy but you have to show up for yourself and keep pushing.
I started my business over 1 year ago and have been struggling with feeling discouraged when business is slow. I have to remind myself why I started this business and who I have looking up to me. My daughter is my motivation . I am also learning as I go so being active on social media was new to me and recently started being more active. Don’t give up keep going.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I do cosmetic teeth whitening and tooth gems which are semi permanent. Who doesn’t want a white smile? You feel more confident and will get compliments. Most recently I have been sought out for tooth gems. I feel like tooth gems are for everyone no matter what you do for living.Tooth gems allow you to express yourself and get creative. I have had people with different backgrounds sit in my chair from The medical field, hairstylist, teachers, musicians etc… I have been told by my clients that they love the experience I provide. I love to educate my them on proper aftercare and I am also honest with them. If I feel what they want is not achievable I will suggest a different option. At the end of the day I want my client to always feel welcomed and comfortable so I do set a vibe in my private suite with a relaxing massage recliner, lights and music. You must book with me to experience it for yourself that’s for sure.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Don’t be afraid to start something new.
