Today we’d like to introduce you to Noah Dawlearn
Hi Noah, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Well basically in highshool I was talking to a girl who liked to have her picture taken and I thought hey you know what let me learn how to do that. while the girl fade the hobby stuck around. my senior gift from all my family chipped in to help my get my first camera and that summer I really got into taking pictures of nature. When I got to college I was broke like alot of people are in college and was trying to find a way to make money. One of the ideas that I came up with was to see if the school newspaper was hiring. Through that experience I would say I developed my main photography style which has involved into the DNA of my work. During the summer of my first or second year of college I meet some people in Houston who did fashion shows and that developed into the body of most of my creative for a few years. I graduated college in 2020 during the start of the pandemic and that slowed everything down like I think it did for most of us where my focused shifted from doing photography as the earning my marketing degree as second to just finding way to make money and stay afloat on bills. I moved in with my aunt and worked at target. November of that year I got my first opportunity in marketing for a restaurant group and worked my way up from graphic designer to marketing director. after two years in the restaurant industry I decided to switch industries to work in multimedia production like I did in college. In October of 2022 I started working at the University of Houston where I work now while trying to build a branding focus marketing studio that caters to Restaurants, Creative People, other Artists and Everyday people.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I don’t think the road is easier for any one but sometimes I feel it has to be for you to learn some lessons that your too stubborn to hear from other people. the first one I learned is when your working on growing something whether its your art carrer, your business or your self, you are borrowing time form the people that you care about. Their gets to a point that you cant borrow anymore time from them and you lose them. So my first piece of advice for any one is its okay to borrow that time but make sure that you pay it back and make time for them because you might not be able to give it back at one point. The next lesson I learned is that the you are the only one that can get you where you want to be in life. I know that sounds hella basic but hear me out. at the end of the day you are the only one that can pull yourself on a path of recovery and well being. you are the only one that can find a reason to push forward and you gotta find the motivation to see that better future. I know its cliche but if you only see negatives you wont have a reason to see anything postive. But if you find the small wins no mater where they are then life starts to get a little better. The last thing I want to say is that if you are trying to find a way to be diffrent from everyone else in your art or your bussiness don’t think like everyone else. Try to find a new way to solve a problem that is diffrent then everyone else. again I know it sounds cliche but for an example as a creative I am trying to stand out in a feild of graphic designers and photographers and videographers. since this industry is so crowed and it is more about who you know rather then what you know I decided to piviot and look and see what is missing from my skillset and what industry the my skills could be served in. Then I am currently focused on how to build my services to those industry to break out of the generalist role and work on servering an industry that I fell needs more love.
As you know, we’re big fans of Noah Dawlearn. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I am currently working on building a branding focused marketing studio. I know that sounds like a lot of business school bullshit but let me break down what that means. So the goal of what I am building is to be a marketing studio for small business that have a quarterly budget of $500-5000 who have started to build their business big enough where they need some help with marketing but cant afford a full time person or team. My goal is to help them with their photography, graphic design, creative direction, and video needs. Right now its only me with some help of some bad ass creatives that I know but my long term goal is to grow this thing out while I work at my day job. The main thing I want people to know is that the way I am diffrent then the sea of creatives that you have worked with before is, I want to really get to know you and your bussiness before we start working together. I want to know the companies goals, directions, and team. That way as we grow and create your content I reflect those key values in the work and able to tell your story through the content that we create. The main industry that I am putting my energy in is the restaurant industry. I feel that Houston has an amazing culture that doesn’t have alot coverage and since I have spent some time in it I really want to help convay the passion that people put into the food and experience that they worked so hard in creating. I wouldn’t say I have anything that I am proud of yet but my goal is over the next year get enough constant income to get a home office and be able to grow my services more. The main thing I want to let everyone know is that you can achieve that dream of what ever you are working on you just got keep working on it every day. Let that 1% growth happen with everything you do and it will start to compound.
Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
Let me look through what I have that has been really useful. One thing I would say is use all of those build in apps in your phone like the reminders and the calendar app. you dont need to go an buy nothing use the resources you already have and save ya bread. I would say im big on youtube so have a few creators that I like. the first is the Futur they talk alot about bussiness as a creative and has alot of resources. There is a small creator called Evan Monsma who talks about building with what you already have which I really like the idea of. I just watched this video today about sacrifice that I realized someone mirrors alot of similar ideas to me.
And lastly this is my favorite go to music playlist that I listen to way to much.
