Daily Inspiration: Meet Janis Greenwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janis Greenwood

Hi Janis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My love for flowers bloomed in high school as a freshman when I joined the Floral Design team with FFA. I competed throughout high school, but when it came time for college, I set my sights on Texas A&M University, where I earned a degree in Agricultural Business. My first role was in Consulting for Outdoor Hospitality, a job that took me to many states and into deep dives of research for clients.

Over time, I started feeling a bit too settled into the routine and craved something a bit more creative. Floral design immediately came to mind! I connected with someone on social media who needed freelance help with weddings around College Station, and our schedules lined up perfectly. Soon enough, I was back in the world of flowers, helping to set up weddings and getting to design a couple of things of my own here and there.

Then, the opportunity came that would change everything. A friend of a friend reached out, saying they’d heard I was back in floral design and asked if I’d create the flowers for their wedding in February. I was both excited and honestly nervous—I’d never done a full wedding on my own before!

I spent countless hours on YouTube, soaking up everything from business tips to floral design techniques and finding the best wholesalers. When the big day arrived, everything came together beautifully. That experience gave me the confidence to take the leap, say goodbye to my day job, and embrace floral design full-time!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While it’s a dream come true to pursue my passion, anyone who has started a business understands that there are inevitable learning curves along the way. Having moved to Houston only eight months ago, one of my main challenges is establishing connections and building a client base in the Clear Lake area. When entering a new market, building trust and earning the respect of potential clients is essential but can be challenging. Consistently posting on social media to establish credibility and foster trust is more complex than it appears—it requires a thoughtful approach and continuous engagement.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?

What was your favorite childhood memory?
I feel incredibly fortunate to have had amazing parents who gave me a childhood filled with joyful memories. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be the holiday season. There was something deeply nostalgic about Christmas at home—our house was always beautifully decorated, and the whole family was together. Those moments were so much more than just a holiday; they were a cherished time of togetherness and tradition that still means so much to me.
