Inspiring Conversations with David Ihedigbo of Ihedigbofitness

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Ihedigbo

Hi David, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Our story begins with my wife, Cislyn Ihedigbo, and me moving to Houston during the pandemic, where we set our hearts on building Ihedigbo Fitness. First, I want to thank the Lord for sustaining us through this journey. I also want to express my deep gratitude to my wife, Cislyn, whose unwavering support has been a cornerstone of this path.

We feel blessed to have impacted so many lives, from young athletes to adults. As the brother of James Ihedigbo, former Super Bowl Champion, I had the privilege of training him during his NFL career, which inspired me to share what I’d learned. Starting our own gym has allowed us to empower young athletes by developing their speed and agility and teaching them that they can reach any goal they set. We’re also committed to helping adults live healthier lives, knowing that healthy adults create healthy families and communities.

In 2020, my apostle, Dr. Dana Carson, declared the start of the Decade of Champions. I realized that to make a real difference, I needed a larger platform—a space to reach more people. I felt the Lord telling me, “With great risk comes great reward. Trust me, and I will exceed all you can imagine.” I knew it was time to step out in faith.

In July 2021, our lives changed with the birth of our baby girl. Her arrival strengthened my resolve to expand and think bigger. I began searching for commercial properties, expecting the process to be straightforward. But each opportunity seemed to fall through, teaching me humility and patience with God’s timing.

At one point, I spoke to my brother, James, now a successful business owner. He encouraged me to keep pushing and eventually connected me with my sister, Onyii Brown, who introduced me to Candace Merritt, a realtor from our church. Candace showed me the value of second-generation spaces, which changed our entire approach. Soon after, we found a promising location off Highway 6 in Missouri City. When I walked into the building, I felt the Holy Spirit affirm that this was the place. Today, Ihedigbo Fitness operates at 7746 Highway 6, where our mission is to offer accessible, quality training for families across Fort Bend and Houston. Too many parents have to travel far for quality training, but now, it’s right here in their community.

Ihedigbo Fitness is more than a gym; it’s a family where we support each other in health, growth, and success. We’d love for you to join us and experience what our community is all about.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When I reflect on the entire process, there have certainly been obstacles, but that’s all part of the journey. The biggest challenge came the week we were set to open. The neighboring store’s hot water heater burst, flooding our entire space and forcing us to replace all the flooring and turf we had just installed. This setback delayed our opening by two months, causing us to miss our peak season. Unfortunately, it also meant we couldn’t reach the kids in this area who need this style of training the most.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Ihedigbo Fitness, we’re more than just a gym – we’re a community dedicated to empowering you on your unique fitness journey. Here, you’ll witness remarkable transformations, regain confidence, and achieve your goals, no matter where you start.

The crisis has affected us all in different ways. How has it affected you and any important lessons or epiphanies you can share with us?
Sometimes, God will lead you through a crisis to reveal your true purpose. Because of COVID-19, I went from just talking about becoming a business owner to actually making it happen. When every gym shut down during the pandemic, I was forced to make a choice.

We all have choices. If you’re thinking about starting a business, beginning a new project, or even getting back into shape—embrace discomfort and stop procrastinating. You can do it. God is already going before you, clearing a path. That path might be messy, but I can guarantee one thing: if you keep going, you will get there.
