Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Jarvis.
Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
C-Sick Surfing is Galveston’s Oldest Professional Surf School. We have been teaching surfing at the 43rd street Rock Jetty on Seawall Boulevard since 1999. We are open ALL Year, provide everyone with the right size soft top surfboard, and wet suits when necessary. Never more than three students per instructor.
All lessons are by appointment and last two hours. We offer basic Beginner Lessons, Refresher and Advanced Classes. Two hour Basic lessons are $50.00, all lessons are by appointment. All of the C-SICK Instructors are longtime local Galveston Surfers with years of experience teaching surfing.
We meet and exceed all rules and regulations set down by the Galveston Beach Patrol. Brian Jarvis the Owner Of C-SICK SURFING started surfing in 1962 in Hawaii and never stopped. He has surfed all over the world. Prior to starting C-SICK SURFING, he spent years on the water working as a merchant seaman, commercial fisherman and tugboats. He holds merchant seaman and Marine Officer documents.
C-SICK SURFING has taught thousands of people of all ages and nationalities how to Surf and many of them are still Surfing. Surfing can have an incredible effect on a person’s life.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
C-SICK SURFING faces the challenge of being the first Professional Surf School on the island of Galveston. We started with 2 employees and 4 boards; doing one Lesson after another, doing Lessons 7 days a week.
We now own over 40 soft top Surfboards, 120 wet suits and have 10 instructors and a full-time photographer. Some of these instructors have been with C-Sick for almost 20 years.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Starting to surf in 1962 at 12 years old in Honolulu, Hawaii.
