Hidden Gems: Meet Jordyn Lessing of Jordyn Ren Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordyn Lessing

Hi Jordyn, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I have had a camera in my hand for as long as I can remember. When I graduated fifth grade, I begged my parents to get me a polaroid camera as a gift. I made my first account to share photography using photos I took on my iPhone 6 when I was just 12 years old. I bought my first point and shoot camera off of Depop and then started shooting on my mom’s DSLR that she originally bought to capture photos of her kid’s high school careers. Never did I think it would bloom and turn into a full business like it is today.

My business’ come-up has been quite quick and it’s sure been a whirlwind to say the least. With learning how to run a business and turn it into a prosperous career, I am constantly learning and growing, but it is something I wouldn’t trade for the world. I’ve worked countless hours behind the scenes perfecting my editing skills, handling client experience, and building my brand socially and for the web; I actually worked for over 10 hours straight overnight when I was building my website just because of how excited I was to have an official site and place where people could book with me. I learned that I genuinely love getting to capture everyone’s special moments and it always feels like such an honor to be the one chosen to play a part in them.

I originally started by shooting seniors and couples and that was it, however I have quickly jumped into the world of families and weddings and I must say, I’ve fallen in love. There is just something so special about seeing how amazing seniors feel when they see their pictures and realize just how beautiful they truly are and playing a large part in a bride and groom’s special day- it is simply magic, nothing else can describe that feeling. I’m excited to continue to flourish in this growing and ever changing industry and make so many amazing connections along the way. This really is just the beginning for Jordyn Ren Photo!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business has definitely been a learning curve. I was once the person to tell anyone who asked that I didn’t think I could or ever would run my own business. I am learning how to juggle everything that goes on in a business, from the on-site shooting aspects, to the post production editing, all the way to managing the business’ social medias and more. Though I must say, I wouldn’t be anywhere near where I am today and it would’ve been a much rougher ride if it had not been for my mentor Jen Jetzer. She started off as my senior photographer, and when I told her I wanted to get into photography myself, she took me right under her wing. She gave me some heads ups on things she’s learned and mistakes she made along the way in order to help prevent me from doing the same. Her kindness and expertise has been an absolute asset in the growth of Jordyn Ren Photo. Of course, I am still learning things everyday- updating my editing style, constantly working on improving my client experience, and balancing a full-time business while being a full-time college student and still finding time for myself, friends, and family. I went into this knowing that the harder I work, the more I will see it pay off and help me get to where I want to be- and that’s something that has helped keep me going, even when I hit a few bumps along the way.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Jordyn Ren Photo?
Jordyn Ren Photo is a photography business that specializes in seniors, weddings, couples, and families. My client experience is what helps set me apart from others. I focus most on making sure that from the moment someone inquires with me they feel welcomed, appreciated, and special. I work tirelessly during the days, weeks, and months leading up to someone’s session or wedding to make sure everything is perfect and going to be as seamless and stress-free as possible. On the day of, I focus on building a friendship with my client, I want them to leave having made a new best friend. After I’ve delivered a gallery, I ensure they love it and will make any minor tweaks they may have requested. Personally, brand-wise I am most proud of my growth. I have come a long way in such a short amount of time and it is directly attributed to the time and effort I have put into Jordyn Ren Photo.

I am so unbelievably appreciative of everyone who supports me and wish there was more I could do to show it. Those who’ve helped me make my way in the industry, those who’ve trusted me to capture some of the most special times in their life, and those who’ve given such kind and gracious words of support- I wouldn’t be able to do anything today if it weren’t for them.

I currently am the sole photographer running Jordyn Ren Photo, and I am always looking to work with new people. I would love to be considered to be apart of documenting anything in your life from the special ties of a family bond, the fleeting moment of senior year, all the way to one of the most important days of your life when you tie the knot with your favorite person in the world. I document it all in an authentic and timeless way to make sure that when you look at the photos, you’re instantly transported back into the moment it happened.

How do you define success?
Success to me is not about how much money you’ve made, how many followers you’ve gained, or how long you’ve been in business. Success is about how many people you’ve touched, how many lives you’ve helped change and capture, and how many people you were able to make feel good about themselves. That is the success I will always be striving for with my business.
