Conversations with Glenys Yevi

Today we’d like to introduce you to Glenys Yevi

Hi Glenys, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a rising model, content creator, and student based out of Houston, TX. My work revolves around creating inspiring, authentic, and emotion-inducing content both as a model and content creator.

My journey began in childhood. Growing up, I always had a passion for all forms of art. I tried my hands at various art forms, including theatre, handcrafting, dancing, drawing, painting, and sculpting until 18 years old. As a shy and socially challenged child who struggled to communicate their vivid inner word, the arts allowed me to bridge the gap between people and rally them to a common cause.

Despite studying the subject academically and exploring it in depth there were two forms of art I could never quite grasp, and that was fashion and photography. I thought back then that they were so complex, combining all forms of art in a single medium. I still find this to be true to this day, but I also knew that it offered endless opportunities for inspiring art. I craved to understand them from the inside out. If years of art schooling had taught me one thing, is that the canvas is the center of the art. Because of this in 2023, I took a leap of faith and decided to become a model, to be the canvas.

The modeling journey wasn’t an easy one! I had some major disadvantages playing against me but I didn’t let them hinder me. I leaned on my knowledge of the arts to perfect my craft, focusing on creating strong and emotion-inducing work. After countless trials and errors, I booked my first job in March 2023. After booking my first photoshoot, things took off from there. I was signed to a mother agency in the Summer of 2023 and began to make my marks in the Houston community. Today, I was fortunate to work with many talented people on the coolest projects! My most notable ones are NYFW, Austin Fashion Week, and International Film Features.

With such a fun journey, I began to document it online! I believe a common misconception people have of models is that we are one-dimensional people trapped in an all-consuming career. I wanted to dismantle this stereotype, showing that there is more to us than the pretty face. I pride myself on my academic and corporate career as much as pride myself on my modeling career. I began to discuss all of them openly on my page, showing how I balanced and excelled on all three fronts.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road was not so smooth! I had several challenges. My biggest struggle was the runway walk, a key part of modeling especially in Houston. Before becoming a model, I had never walked in heels because I did not have the right foot anatomy for it. When I was 16, I was even told by my doctor that I should likely give up on the idea of heels for good. Despite this, I tried it anyway. My mindset has always been that if I wanted it bad enough, I could achieve anything. Besides, how could I ever pass on such a fashion statement as a pair of high, classy, showstopping heels? So I put the heels on and tried all the tricks in the books to walk comfortably in them. I did it again and again until I finally got it right.

Another challenge I faced was getting the right information I needed to perfect my craft. There are as many different types of modeling opportunities as there are models, so finding the right information and opportunities for my niche was a challenge. I primarily do fashion and commercial modeling, so I connected with more professionals in that same community.

The toughest challenge I faced was standing out in a highly competitive industry. It is no secret that modeling and content creation are competitive and dynamic industries. Building a community of talented and well-intentioned professionals around me was a game changer, allowing me to push past the competitive setback.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a fashion model and content creator, specializing in fashion and lifestyle content. I am most known for my runway work, notably Austin Fashion Week, New York Fashion Week, and Miami Swim Week. I’m most proud of my journey within the Houston community because I believe it truly embodies what sets me apart: my passion for the arts, creativity, and ability to adapt quickly to all creative needs!

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me and what I aim to channel in all my work is authenticity. Authenticity both in myself, the content I put out, and the reaction my work provokes in the audience. I believe that in a world where everything is rapidly becoming artificial, it is important to reconnect with the authentic elements that ground us and make us human. Fashion and the arts are some of them!
