Meet Joel Quezada of Massage Therapy by Joel Quezada

Today we’d like to introduce you to Joel Quezada.

Joel, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
According to my family & friends, I have always had a passion for massage therapy. I can recall several times my siblings or parents would want me to walk on them or at school when classmates and teachers were some of my best and closest clients. The praise and support I received from everyone made me pursue this career and it has been one of the most rewarding.

As a Licensed Massage Therapist with the state of Texas, my goal is to reduce pain and fatigue associated with muscle soreness and tension. Every session includes some one on one time with the practitioner to help achieve the best possible course of treatment.

I love being able to provide a service for those in need of therapeutic bodywork. We put our body through a lot of abuse without even realizing it. Which is why we as therapists try to raise awareness that massage can be very useful in preventative maintenance for the body as well as increase your recovery rate, allowing you to do and achieve more out of the activities you love.

When not working on clients, I like to donate my time to various local gyms, coffee shops, etc… offering a 10 to 15-minute complimentary session for the working class and athletes who don’t have the time to set aside for a full bodywork session.

Has it been a smooth road?
It definitely has had its low and high points. For the first few years I was working for chain businesses as I didn’t know much about the business aspect of our industry, however working for chains really had a history of burning out massage therapists & It was at these establishments I had to deal with my first case of sexual misconduct from a male client. There were also several times I would get discouraged about people cancelling their appointment once they knew it was a male therapist so afterwards I took a year to work on my skills as a sports therapist and honed my technique to fit the needs of athletes and office workers and built up my networking skills. I then began working at local yoga studios and moved onto private day spas after a couple years and found out rather quickly that my input about ways to improve the conditions of my workplace for clients and was not wanted. This really opened my eyes as to how the only way to give my clients the best they deserve without any confusion is to open my own studio, which is exactly what I did after 9 years as a therapist in January of 2018 in Houston TX and I haven’t looked back since.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are here to provide therapeutic bodywork and pain management for individuals who need relief from everyday life & stress. No two sessions are the same as we customize the experience for each client in order to receive the best possible treatment. We are known for our chair massage since we do a lot of events for local businesses. We are proud to have been licensed with the state of Texas for the past 10 years and are dedicated to serving our community.

Here at Massage Therapy by Joel Quezada, we make a conscious effort to give you the best possible treatment to meet your expectations and help you live a healthier lifestyle.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I feel Houston is a great city for a massage therapy studio! I would suggest anyone looking to open a place here to do their research as far as what they want to offer and have a business plan because I have seen people shut down after only a year or two. I do have concerns that we are not doing everything we can to shut down illegal establishments that hire unlicensed individuals in this city. Most places like these also don’t actively practice proper hygiene protocols and put their customers at risk with shady business ethics.
