Meet Jessica and James Ginn of HCC Pressure Washing in Westchase

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jessica and James Ginn.

Jessica and James, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When James was laid off from his oil field job in July of 2015, we weren’t sure what we were going to do. At the time, I already had a trip planned for later that month, which was nonrefundable, so I left town for a week. While I was gone, he called me and said ‘I decided to start a pressure washing business.’ I think all of Las Vegas heard my jaw hit the floor when he said that because at the time, we didn’t know the first thing about ‘true’ power washing (power because it isn’t always about pressure :-)). The day after I returned home, I jumped right in to help however I could with the work and learning whatever I could. At the beginning, most of our clients were neighbors wanting their driveways cleaned or a few moldy spots on their house. After we completed a few jobs and did some local free advertising, we began receiving more requests from residents in our area. We started to make a name for ourselves with our quality of work, attention to detail and building good rapport with our clients. This meant more referrals and more work coming our way. Because of our expanding residential client base, we were meeting many people in many professions, including property management and construction. This is how we worked our way into some commercial jobs, which in turn, produced more commercial contacts and more work. We are still, and always will do residential and commercial work. We know that were it not for our residential clients, we would not be in business today and we are more than happy to continue to serve them.

We have, in the past 2 1/2 years, with help from a few great people in our industry, built ourselves up from a small electric 1.2 gal/min power washer to (what we call) our residential trailer with 1-8 gal/minute machine and our commercial trailer with 2-8 gal/min machines and all necessary equipment to run them independently.

James and I both work every aspect of our business from site visits to writing proposals for clients to the washing work itself. Sometimes we work together, sometimes we take our trailers in opposite directions to work different jobs at the same time.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely has not always been a smooth road…what business is???

As with many small businesses, I’m sure, there are always slumps in the demand for your product/service. This will likely continue to happen every once in a while, for our industry. And when it does happen, it can be scary. This company is our sole source of income for our family, so when we don’t have work scheduled, it can be very stressful on us as to how we will continue to provide for our 2 boys.

We’ve had mechanical issues with equipment, trucks & trailers which resulted in having to repair and/or replace things when we least expected it, which are usually a pretty hard hit to the bank account.
