Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Ortiz
Hi Carlos , we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been working in the remodeling industry ever since I could remember. My father started with carpet cleaning and worked his way up to owning his own remodeling company. I would help my father in his business in anyway that I could from unloading bags of cement to riding along with him on estimates. I never really thought of starting my own business until after I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas and moved to Houston. I always thought it would be a side hustle to my 9-5 job of being a software engineer but it would take more and more of my time and attention so I decided to take it full time. Ever since then, my father and I have been working together. I really do enjoy meeting new people every day, going to new places, and helping clients with their remodeling projects!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I am fortunate to have my father on my side to help me with basic things in the business such as estimation, processes, and other basic skills that might have taking me longer to obtain if it weren’t for his guidance. I have had some struggles such as appearing unexperienced or not knowing how to approach situations appropriately. One struggle that I regret the most is not starting my business earlier. I graduated from the University of Texas at Dallas with a BS in Software Engineering and I sometimes wonder what if I started the business before going to college and graduated with some sort of business degree to maximize the output of the business. But I do not regret graduating in what I graduated in. I believe it gave me skills and experiences that have helped me in my business.
As you know, we’re big fans of Lone Star General Remodeling. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Lone Star General Remodeling is a family owned business that does interior/residential/commercial/exterior remodeling with a high level of quality! What sets us apart from others is our experience and knowledge in the remodeling industry. What I am most proud of brand wise is our level of attention where no detail is too small. What I want readers to know is that we try to treat our clients almost as friends so we will try to give you good deals and make sure your project is completed to your liking.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I would say it would be my drive to succeed and not let any setback affect my progress towards my goals. That’s very important being an entrepreneur because realistically you’re not going to get every estimate so you can’t let the other estimates you don’t get affect the ones you do. Apart from that, another quality would be a good attitude. I am a firm believer in the nicest thing you can wear is a smile! One last quality would be not having a fear of failure. Remodeling is a high risk high reward field but you have to have faith in yourself that you can accomplish your goals!
