Check Out Nitasia Spirit Dupree’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Nitasia Spirit Dupree

Hi Nitasia Spirit, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from the East Coast. I was born and raised in New Jersey and spent some time in Delaware. My journey has been full of both challenges and opportunities that helped shape who I am today. Growing up, I didn’t come from much, but I was fortunate to be involved in ministry and school programs that inspired me to dream big and work hard. I became the first woman in my family to graduate from college, and that was a huge moment of pride for both me and my family. I earned my degree in Accounting in Delaware, and from there, my journey eventually brought me to Texas.

It was in Texas that I first heard about the Urban League through Eric Jones, but at the time, I was transitioning out of Austin. When I moved to Los Angeles in 2019, I officially joined the Los Angeles Urban League Young Professionals and became the Professional Development Chair under President Danielle King. During my time there, I organized some incredible events that really made an impact on the community. Eventually, I decided to come back to Texas and settled in Houston, where I took on the same role as Professional Development Chair. I absolutely loved being able to create programs that helped people grow and succeed, and it was such a rewarding experience.

Now, as President of the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals, I’m continuing to push the needle forward. I’m incredibly grateful for this opportunity and the chance to lead and serve. I believe in staying mission, movement, and community focused. This is still just the beginning for me, and I’m excited to keep building and making an impact.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but that’s part of the journey! Along the way, I’ve faced challenges that have pushed me to grow and become stronger. One of the biggest struggles has been balancing everything. I’m not only a finance manager, a peak performance coach, and an author, but I also sit on several boards, which adds even more responsibility to my plate. Managing all these roles, especially as a woman in leadership, can feel overwhelming at times, but it also keeps me motivated and driven.

A major challenge I’ve faced is learning to compartmentalize my feelings and quickly switch hats. I had to master the ability to transition smoothly from the corporate world to the non-profit space, especially with the different demands and ways of thinking. It took time to learn how to leave the pressures of the office behind when I shifted to my community leadership role and vice versa. But over time, I’ve learned to manage these shifts and keep my focus on making the most impact in both spaces.

There have also been moments of self-doubt where I questioned if I was doing enough or if I could juggle all the roles I had taken on. But those struggles taught me the importance of self-care, faith, and leaning on the amazing people around me for support. The road hasn’t always been easy, but each challenge has helped me grow and reminded me of the bigger purpose I’m working towards.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I wear a few different hats, which I love because it keeps things exciting! By day, I’ve worked in accounting for the last 14 years, primarily in the SAAS (Software as a Service) Technology space. I specialize in managing financial strategies and operations, ensuring that companies stay financially healthy while they grow and innovate. My work in this field has given me a strong foundation in finance, which I’ve been able to apply to a variety of projects.

In addition to my 9-5, I’m also the founder of BeiN Xposed LLC, where I help healthcare professionals with their marketing, branding, business setup, and payroll. Through this business, I provide a full range of services to help professionals in the healthcare industry establish and grow their practices. I focus on offering customized solutions that are practical, scalable, and aligned with their goals.

I’m also a Peak Performance Coach, and my goal is to take people from good to great. I motivate individuals to become better versions of themselves by identifying their weaknesses and helping them strengthen those areas. I do this by getting to know the person behind the position and providing personalized guidance that empowers them to thrive. Whether it’s in their career, personal life, or leadership roles, I help people elevate their performance.

What sets me apart is my ability to pivot and execute events and initiatives from my experience as a Chair. Over the years, I’ve gained a lot of practice in adjusting to new circumstances, thinking on my feet, and organizing impactful events that align with the needs of my community. I’ve planned everything from career workshops to social etiquette events, and I’ve learned how to adapt quickly, make decisions under pressure, and execute with excellence. These skills have been invaluable in my leadership roles, especially in helping to drive change and growth in every area I work.

One thing I’m most proud of is seeing the people I work with, whether in my corporate role or through my community efforts, take the tools I’ve helped provide and use them to level up in their own lives. That’s what truly drives me. It’s not just about achieving success myself but empowering others to do the same.

Who else deserves credit in your story?
I truly believe that success is never achieved alone, and I’ve been lucky to have so many amazing people in my corner who have helped me along the way. My mentors, supporters, cheerleaders, and teammates have all played a huge part in where I am today.

I’ve been especially blessed to have ministry leaders like Audrey Milton, Bishop John Burnett, Pastor Kiss Burnett, and Pastor Gerald & Marketta Johnson guiding me both personally and professionally. Watching how they ran ministry and balanced multiple responsibilities helped shape me as a leader. They taught me the importance of multitasking and how to switch hats quickly, something that’s been essential in both my personal life and in my work. Their wisdom and example have really influenced how I lead and manage different areas of my life.

I also have to mention Sherhara Burrell, the owner of Speakhaus, who has truly helped me become a better speaker. Her guidance and coaching have helped me communicate more confidently and effectively, whether I’m speaking to small groups or larger audiences. Terrone Warren, an educator and community advocate from Wilmington, Delaware, planted the seeds for me to not only make an impact in my community but also inspired me to pursue teaching.

Additionally, Jeremy and Rashika Craft, the owners of Black Book Houston, have been incredible collaborators. We’ve worked together on several events, and they’ve connected me to so many subject matter experts and event spaces all around Houston. Their support and network have been vital in helping us execute impactful events for the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals.

In my Urban League journey, I’ve also worked alongside some incredible presidents and colleagues who have shaped my leadership style. Danielle King (Los Angeles), Deion Dorsett (Houston), Victoria Hart (Houston), Ray Shackelford (Houston), and Tyler Litt (Louisiana) have all been amazing role models and teammates. Their leadership has really inspired me and pushed me to grow. I’ve also learned so much from fellow YPs like Alycea Dixon (Houston) and Alicia Winding (Los Angeles), who have always been there to support me and cheer me on.

Each of these individuals has had such a positive impact on my journey, offering guidance, encouragement, and support whenever I needed it. I truly wouldn’t be where I am today without them.
