Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Ojo
Hi Elizabeth, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First I would like to say how grateful I am for this space, thank you for seeing the value in my work. How I got started is I just got up one day and decided to start taking things more serious! It might sound clique but I just felt unfilled, like I was doing a disservice to my ancestors and my dreams. I was over sitting around, expecting things to fall into my lap – daydreaming all while knowing how capable and talented I am yet taking no real action. Randomly one day I saw one of my mutuals posted about needing an Mua/ stylist for a photoshoot. Ive always been good at and passionate about both, so I hit her back letting her know I was available and have been Locked in with my craft ever since.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have definitely encountered obstacles and challenges on this journey, most things are kinda surface level – things such as not the best experience with a client. People canceling last min so having to work out rescheduling on top of having to reorganize your schedule for the initial agreed day. Even personal challenges like editing errors and forgetting or losing equipment. It hasn’t been the smoothes sailing but it also hasn’t been the worst and for that I am very grateful. Im honestly just grateful to have the opportunity to follow my dreams. I actually enjoy the challenges, they help me recognize I am not only learning but growing as an individual and brand.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Houston based Makeup artist, stylist, and Photographer. Makeup I specialize in soft/full glams and editorial makeup and photography I specialize in fashion, portraits, concerts, and cover art photography. I think at this point in my career most people know me for my makeup, I usually lead with introducing myself as a makeup artist because people usually complement my makeup and that’s where the conversation flows from. However I definitely don’t want to limit or box myself in. Im most proud of myself really, taking that leap of faith on myself and displaying my work to the world with no shame of outside judgement. Just simply creating because it’s so fun to me and that’s what I love to do, I want to create forever. What sets me apart is the same things that sets most people apart of others, I am me. I have my own unique experience no-one else has, I think the way I grew up and the things I consumed has played its part in curating my creative mind and is special and simply unique to me. My creativity isn’t limited by anything of this world.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
My advice is to just start literally, if you keep waiting for the perfect time once you actually start you’ll regret procrastinating for so long. I wish I knew starting out that you should be very wise and selective on who you tell things to and what you tell them.
