Today we’d like to introduce you to Vonne Jones
Hi Vonne, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Houston, went to college here at HCU, left to attend Georgetown University School Of Medicine, and residency at Christiana Care. In 2012, I returned to Houston and worked in the private/hospital setting, and decided that I wanted to open my own medical office, so that I could practice without the restrictions of corporate medicine. In 2018, I opened Total Women’s Care of the Heights, and it has been a labor of love. With entrepreneurship, there are always ups and downs, but I wouldn’t change it for anything. I’m able to practice by my own principles, and take care of patients without having to worry about time restrictions or RVUs. As a business, I still have to generate revenue, but on my own terms. I am looking forward to continuing to push my practice, gain more staff, and focus on clinical trials. I am looking to enroll more minorities in clinical trials to determine what the proper treatments are to utilize for our ethnicity, and create more studies on uterine fibroids to help with regimens to decrease symptomology.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Initially, it was difficult because as a physician, we were taught the practice of medicine, but not the business. I did have mentorship, but also had to lear some hard lessons. I am still growing, but am figuring out how to ask for help or consult others when I don’t have the answers.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an Obstetrician Gynecologist. I provide contraceptive care, treatment for pelvic pain/uterine fibroids/abnormal uterine bleeding, perform deliveries, and do preventative screening (ie Pap smears). What sets us apart is we have a calming environment (our office doesn’t look like a medical office), which can allow for patients to feel at ease, and divulge more personal information, which can help with us diagnosing the patient, and providing them with the utmost care. I am proud of TWC because we take care of women of all ages, and we make them feel comfortable, nurtured, and empowered with their health.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risks can be tricky. I believe I took a risk with starting the practice and it wasn’t easy, but the reward has been amazing. All that to say that with risks, you have to look risk/benefit ratio. If the risks is big, but the reward is as well, I typically look at the pro/cons, discuss it with my mentor, and think about what the costs will be.
Pricing:
- This would be depend on if the patient has insurance, and what their benefits are.
