Hi Holiday Soul, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
The five of us united in our desire for more inclusive holiday markets, recognizing a lack of décor that truly represents our culture. We saw no Black or Brown Santa Claus figures, culturally relevant nutcrackers, or HBCU paraphernalia. Motivated by this gap, we envisioned starting our own market to celebrate businesses that highlight these meaningful items. Each of us shared our passion for diversity in holiday décor. From this powerful collaboration, our dream took flight, and now we proudly stand as five co-founders of the Holiday Soul Nutcracker Market.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey hasn’t been smooth. Like many start-up businesses, we’ve faced challenges with funding and securing start-up capital. We initially financed the business with our own money because we believed in its potential. Another significant struggle has been attracting large corporate sponsorship dollars to support our vision. As an all-women-owned and all-black-owned business, finding corporate sponsors willing to back a newly established venture has proven to be a persistent challenge.

We have officially launched The Heart of Soul Foundation! Our mission is to empower and transform communities through strategic programs, scholarships, and toy drives. With our annual Holiday Soul Nutcracker Market (HSNM), we aim to create a vibrant marketplace that fosters equitable opportunities for minority entrepreneurs, allowing them to amplify their voices and drive sustainable economic growth. We are dedicated to providing scholarships to HBCU students, hosting an annual toy drive to bring joy to underprivileged youth, and offering grants to support minority-owned businesses. Together, we are igniting change and inspiring hope in our communities.
